BioConstruct NewEnergy Ltd is a UK-based anaerobic digestion (AD) operations and maintenance specialist, running biogas plants across the country — from farm-based sites to fully industrialised, gas-to-grid facilities. Our team looks after the day-to-day running, servicing, and technical performance of AD plants nationwide, working directly with site owners and operators to keep plants safe, compliant, and performing at their best.
We're a lean, hands-on operation — our people know the plants they run inside out, and we back that up with strong technical support from our wider international group when specialist expertise is needed. It means our site teams get to focus on what matters: keeping the plant running well, day in and day out.
The Role
We're looking for a Plant Manager to take full responsibility for the daily operation and maintenance of one of our sites. This is a genuinely hands-on leadership role — you'll be the senior person on-site, managing a small operational team while staying close to the process itself. You'll report directly to BioConstruct NewEnergy's senior management team.
You'll own the safe, compliant, and profitable running of the plant — which means being equally comfortable in a management meeting, on the phone to a regulator, and out on the plant floor solving a process problem with your team.
Direct AD experience is a bonus, not a requirement — full training is given. What matters more is that you can lead a small technical team, think analytically about a live industrial process, and build genuine working relationships with the people around it — your client, your contractors, and the agencies you're accountable to.
What You'll Be Doing
Leadership & Team
- Managing and developing a small team of plant operators and technicians, fostering a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement
- Directing and supervising maintenance contractors on-site
- Running regular safety training to maintain compliance with health and safety regulations
- Acting as the senior on-site presence, available for hands-on operational work when the situation calls for it
Process & Performance
- Monitoring and optimising process conditions to maximise biogas production and energy output while maintaining system integrity
- Coordinating maintenance activities, including mechanical repairs, to minimise downtime
- Overseeing inventory of equipment parts and supplies needed for ongoing plant operation and maintenance
- Developing and maintaining plant procedures, operating manuals, and site documentation
- Working with computer-controlled (SCADA) plant systems to manage day-to-day operations
Relationships & Compliance
- Building and maintaining strong working relationships with the client and feedstock suppliers
- Managing operational contact with the HSE, Environment Agency, and other regulatory bodies
- Overseeing environmental compliance and administrative record-keeping for the site
What We're Looking For
- A relevant technical qualification — ideally degree-level in chemical or mechanical engineering, or chemistry
- Experience managing or supervising process plant operations in a process industry or utility environment
- Strong mechanical knowledge to understand complex equipment systems and support troubleshooting
- Comfortable working with computer-controlled (SCADA) plant systems
- Strong relationship-building skills — with contractors, clients, and regulators alike
- A genuinely hands-on, proactive approach — you're happy to lead from the front, not just from an office
- Solid understanding of workplace Health & Safety and environmental regulations (further training provided)
- Excellent written and verbal communication for reporting, documentation, and stakeholder engagement
Nice to Have (Not Essential)
- Direct experience in anaerobic digestion or biogas
- Experience with environmental compliance and regulatory liaison
A Few Practical Details
- The plant operates 24/7, so some out-of-hours and shift work will be required
- You'll play a key role in shaping site procedures and operating/maintenance manuals — this is a role where you build the systems, not just follow them
Pay: £45,000.00-£50,000.00 per year
