As a Waste Bin Runner at Manchester Airport, you will play a crucial role in maintaining a clean, safe, and environmentally responsible environment. Your main duties will include the collection, segregation, and disposal of waste across various airport locations, ensuring compliance with waste management regulations and sustainability practices. You will also be responsible for maintaining service yards, reporting issues, and providing excellent customer service to passengers and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Waste Collection & Disposal:
Emptying and cleaning a variety of waste bins across the airport, including:
Ash bins
Terminal bins (Landside & Airside)
Front-of-building bins
Washroom bins
Foreign Object Debris (FOD) bins (Airside)
Oil can bins (Airside)
Car park bins
Viewing Park bins
Check-in desk bins
Replacing bin bags as necessary and ensuring bins are clean and presentable.
Cleaning and maintaining signage across the airport and reporting any missing or damaged signage to Manchester Airport Group (MAG).
Identifying and reporting any failures in waste segregation to ensure compliance with airport sustainability goals.
Cleaning and maintaining service yards, keeping them tidy and free from hazards.
- Customer & Passenger Interaction:
Engaging with airport staff and passengers in a professional and courteous manner.
Providing assistance and guidance where necessary, ensuring a positive customer experience.
Representing Mitie with professionalism, following airport security protocols and behaving in a manner that reflects the high standards of Manchester Airport.
Skills & Experience Required:
- Previous experience in waste management, cleaning, or a similar role is desirable but not essential.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and a customer-friendly approach.
- Basic understanding of waste segregation and recycling best practices.
- Awareness of health & safety regulations, particularly in a high-security environment such as an airport.
- Willingness to work in outdoor and indoor environments, in all weather conditions.
Additional Information:
- Full training and uniform will be provided.
- Shift work may include early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
- Candidates must pass background checks and security clearance as per airport regulations
- Full Manual Driving license with no more than 6 points on license
- Randow Drug & Alcohol tests will be carried out
