Main Duties
Nursery Maintenance:
- Monitoring the standards of cleanliness of the premises and furnishings and reporting any deficiencies to the Nursery Manager and Owner.
- Cleaning of rugs carpets and other floorings.
- Carrying out first line repairs and building maintenance including: maintaining external and internal fittings, replacing (to a safe height) electric bulb and tubes, redecoration, minor plumbing tasks, joinery work, masonry work etc.
- Drawing the attention of Nursery Manager and owner to any repairs or maintenance work required at the premises which is beyond the competence of the caretaking staff
- Undertaking internal and external inspection of buildings (external inspections from ground level), reporting all defects to the Nursery Manager and Owner.
- Cleaning of specialist areas e.g. boiler rooms, etc. when required.
- Liaising with outside contractors as required, either directly or through the owner or manager.
Nursery Security and Supervision:
- To act as a key holder, carrying out security procedures for the buildings and grounds.
- The routine and non-routine opening of premises and grounds.
- Responding to emergency call-outs (possibly outwith regular working hours and in accordance with established procedures), including attending at the location, contacting the appropriate authorities, inspecting for damage and theft, effecting temporary repairs and, where necessary, liaising with contractors/emergency services on site.
- Carrying out prescribed procedures in the event of fire, flooding, accident or damage, including liaising with the appropriate staff, contractors etc.
- Providing access, where possible, to the premises in the event of snow or minor flooding or similar emergency situations.
- Co-operating with all appropriate personnel and agencies in maintaining the security of the premises.
- Patrolling the Early Days Nursery premises and associated grounds, monitoring public areas and generally ensuring that security and safety is maintained during hours of opening.
Nursery Vehicles:
- Driving the nursery minibus and other nursery vehicles as required and in accordance with Nursery Driving Policy.
- Ensuring that required checks are performed prior to driving and advising Nursery Manager and Owner of any defects.
Nursery Safety
- Checking of emergency exit doors and emergency alarms (including the completion of any required records)
- Arranging for safety equipment checks and completing required records
- Carrying out PAT testing as per guidelines (including the completion of any required records)
- Ensuring water systems are safe, especially after periods of non-use. This may include organising for external companies to perform checks.
- Making the premises safe for all users as a result of weather inclement or other incident e.g. treatment of pathways and steps with salt/grit/sand when there is snow and/or ice, removing leaves, fallen branches and/or other debris
Managing Utilities:
- Ensuring the satisfactory heating of the premises and the economic use of fuel for heating purposes.
- Taking regular gas, electricity and water meter readings.
Waste & Hygiene Management:
- Ensuring that litter is cleared regularly from inside and outside Early Days Nursery Premises (including all weather surfaces and soft playing areas).
- Ensuring bins are kept clean and that they are put out for collection on appropriate day.
- Ensuring that adequate stock of waste management, cleaning materials and other supplies are available.
Supporting Nursery Operations
- Laying out, clearing and stacking furniture/equipment and/or other nursery property.
- Collecting and delivering goods throughout the group as required
*Other duties in support of the nursery as decided by the Owner.

Pay: £15.00 per hour
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
