Service Engineer (Electrical Bias)

About the Role
A growing engineering services company is seeking a field-based Service Engineer with a strong Electrical background to join its expanding team. Following recent contract wins and continued business growth, this role offers an excellent opportunity for an electrically biased engineer who enjoys hands-on fault-finding, installation, and commissioning work across a diverse range of client sites.
The role involves working within industrial and educational environments, carrying out service, maintenance, installation, and commissioning of Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) systems and a wide range of engineering workshop machinery, with a primary focus on electrical systems and controls.
Key Responsibilities

Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) on electrically controlled machinery and LEV systems, ensuring compliance with current electrical and safety regulations.

Perform electrical fault-finding, diagnostics, and repairs on-site, producing clear and accurate service reports.

Install, modify, and upgrade electrical systems, control panels, motors, drives, and associated components on machinery and LEV installations.

Commission new machinery and LEV systems, including electrical testing, functional checks, and handover documentation.

Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation to support installation and fault diagnosis.

Liaise professionally with clients on-site, providing technical advice and support where required.
Required Experience & Qualifications

Completed a recognised Electrical Engineering apprenticeship

Minimum 1 year post-apprenticeship experience in a service, installation, or maintenance environment

HNC (or higher) in Electrical Engineering

Full UK Driving Licence
Technical Experience (Desirable)

Electrical systems on woodworking and metalworking machinery

LEV systems including fan and filter units

Variable Speed Drives (VSDs), soft starters, star/delta and DOL motor starters

Single- and three-phase motors, solenoids, and emergency control circuits

Basic PLC systems, control relays, and interlocks

Pressure switches, transducers, and safety control devices

Supporting mechanical components such as fans, impellers, bearings, and drive systems
Additional (Desirable) Certifications

18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671)

18th Edition Inspection & Testing

ECS / CSCS certification

Experience with steel conduit bending, trunking, and cable tray installations
