Glimmer Living is looking for a warm, reliable and compassionate Relief Companion / Carer to join our growing team.
This is a flexible, zero-hours, part-time role, ideal for someone who already has care or companionship experience and is looking for additional work. The role will initially focus on providing cover for our existing client when regular carers are unavailable, with the opportunity to take on more regular hours as Glimmer Living grows.
Responsibilities
- Provide warm, respectful and person-centred companionship to clients.
- Engage clients in conversation and meaningful activities based on their interests.
- Support clients with everyday errands and community activities where required.
- Accompany clients to appointments, social activities or outings where appropriate.
- Help clients maintain independence, confidence and social connection.
- Provide reassurance and emotional support within the boundaries of the role.
- Follow each client’s individual support plan and agreed preferences.
- Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality and dignity at all times.
- Communicate effectively with clients, families and the Glimmer Living team.
- Complete clear and accurate visit notes and report any concerns or changes in a client’s wellbeing promptly.
- Provide reliable cover for planned days off, holidays and occasional sickness.
- Work independently while maintaining regular communication with the Glimmer Living coordinator.
- Follow Glimmer Living’s safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality and professional policies.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Previous experience in care, companionship, support work or a similar people-focused role.
- A caring, patient and respectful approach.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable, punctual and able to work independently.
- Understanding of confidentiality, safeguarding and professional boundaries.
- Ability to build trusting relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
- Right to work in the UK.
- Two satisfactory references.
- Enhanced DBS check, or willingness to obtain one, subject to the requirements of the role.
- Relevant training or qualifications in care/support work are desirable.
Desirable
- Experience supporting older adults.
- Experience providing companionship or community-based support.
- Relevant health and social care qualifications.
- First Aid training.
- Flexibility to provide occasional weekday, evening or weekend cover.
- Access to reliable transport where required for client visits.
