About Us
H2 Cognitive Designs (H2CD) is a health technology company working at the intersection of cognitive science, clinical research, and large-scale digital assessment. We build platforms used to measure cognitive performance across clinical trials, occupational health programmes, and large institutional deployments in the UK and internationally.
Our clients include demanding and security-conscious organisations across healthcare, national institutions, and sectors where the performance and reliability of what we build genuinely matter. Our infrastructure is cloud-native, and our engineering team is distributed, collaborative, highly skilled and highly specialised. We have a rapidly growing portfolio of significant projects, and this role sits at the heart of how we deliver them.
The Role
This is a core quality engineering position. You will work day-to-day alongside developers through the full development cycle — from defining test criteria to automated testing, release validation, and monitoring. You will test systems — APIs, pipelines, and integrations — and build the automation that keeps them reliable as the platform grows.
You will own quality as a discipline within the team. That means being in the conversation early, pushing back when something is not testable, and making automation a first-class part of how the team ships.
What You Will Be Doing
- Collaborating on the creation of test cases and acceptance criteria in a sprint cycle
- Reviewing tickets and PRs to catch issues before they reach staging
- Owning the automated test suite — writing, running, and maintaining tests as part of the CI/CD pipeline
- Coordinating with DevOps on environment provisioning, deployment validation, and release sign-off
- Running regression, integration, and load tests against each release candidate
- Triaging and reproducing bugs reported from production, working with engineers to get them resolved
What We Are Looking For
- Strong, practical QA engineering experience on web-based software products
- Strong cross-browser — cross-device testing experience, including mobile (iOS and Android)
- Proficiency writing and maintaining automated tests with Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or equivalent
- Experience testing REST APIs and validating data pipelines (Postman, REST-assured, or similar)
- Familiarity with performance and load testing tools (k6, JMeter, Locust, or similar)
- An investigative mindset — able to spot subtle defects that could compromise system performance, not just surface-level UI bugs
- Clear written communication — well-structured bug reports, test plans, and the ability to discuss quality risks with non-engineers
- Experience in a healthcare, clinical research, or academic software environment is a strong advantage
