CT postcodes · Self-employed / subcontract
About the role
We're an established heating and plumbing company adding air conditioning to what we offer our customers, and we're looking for an experienced air conditioning engineer to work with us on a subcontract basis. If it works well for both sides, there's a genuine route to a full-time employed position as we build this side of the business.
This is a role with real scope. You'd be handling the work end to end — surveying and quoting, installing, servicing and repairing — for homeowners across Deal, Dover, Sandwich, Canterbury and the surrounding CT postcodes. You'd be building something from the ground up rather than picking up someone else's backlog.
About us
We've been looking after homes in East Kent for over 25 years, and we've built our reputation by turning up when we say we will and doing the job properly. We run a modern operation — jobs scheduled and managed through our field service software, an office team that answers the phone, and no chasing customers for payment yourself. As domestic heating moves toward electrification, air conditioning and heat pumps are where we see the business going, and we want someone who wants to be part of that.
What you'll be doing
- Surveying domestic properties and preparing quotations for new installations
- Installing split and multi-split air conditioning systems — indoor units, condensers, pipework, condensate and electrical connections
- Commissioning, pressure testing and evacuation to manufacturer standards
- Annual servicing and planned maintenance
- Fault-finding, diagnostics and repairs across a range of manufacturers
- Advising customers honestly on what they need — we don't oversell
How the work is paid
- Installation work priced per unit by agreement, so an efficient day is a well-paid day
- A flat fee for diagnostic and fault-finding visits
- Materials supplied or reimbursed — agreed per job
- Work booked and scheduled for you by our office
- Prompt payment on agreed terms
What we're looking for
You'll need:
- F-Gas Category I certification (C&G 2079 or equivalent), current and in date
- Demonstrable experience installing and servicing domestic split and multi-split systems
- Confident brazing, pressure testing, vacuum and commissioning skills
- Ability to survey a property and produce an accurate quotation
- Your own van, tools and calibrated gauges
- Public liability insurance (£2m minimum)
- Self-employed status with your own UTR
- A full UK driving licence
Nice to have:
- Air source heat pump experience, or MCS accreditation
- 18th Edition (BS 7671) and Part P scheme registration
- Manufacturer training with Daikin, Mitsubishi, Panasonic or similar
- Refrigerant handling company registration (REFCOM or equivalent)
- Experience in domestic rather than purely commercial settings
Why this is worth a look
Most subcontract work means quiet weeks, chasing invoices and pricing every job yourself. This is different. We generate the enquiries, handle the customer and pay you on time — you do the work to a high standard. You'd have real input into how this side of the business is built, and if you're looking for something more permanent, this is a paid trial period for both of us, with a full-time role on the other side of it for the right person.
How to apply
Apply through Indeed with a short note about your experience and your current F-Gas certification. We'll come back to you to arrange a call.
Pay: £52,200.00-£73,080.00 per year
