Job Title: Senior Design Engineer
Location: Derby
Reporting to: Design Manager
Hours: Monday-Friday: 8:00am - 4:00pm (37.5 hours per week)
Rate of Pay: £45,000 - £55,000 per annum (DOE), plus benefits
Start date: Immediate
Objective:
The Senior Design Engineer has a key role in all aspects of design, from understanding customer requirements and developing concepts, through detail design to producing drawings. You will guide and advise junior members of the design team and collaborate with other departments within the business to ensure the overall success of projects beyond the design phase. You will be involved in reviews through the process (both internal and with customers) as well as having regular interaction with suppliers and manufacturers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Creation of design concepts / layouts
- Creation of solid models and assemblies
- Creation of detail drawings and design solutions to either ISO and / or ASME standards
- Creation of BoM’s (Bill of Materials)
- Performing any necessary calculations required to verify the design
- Checking engineering drawings and design solutions
- Liaison with manufacturers to ensure parts can be manufactured / are being manufactured in the most cost effective way
- Preparation of presentation material for design reviews with customers and internal project managers
- Liaison directly with the customer to resolve design issues / be involved in design discussions on or off site
- Conducting DFMEA sessions
- Assisting the Project Manager in time and resource estimating and allocation

Qualifications & Competencies:
- A completed Degree or HNC/HND qualification in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- At least 5-10 years of relevant professional experience
- Gas turbine experience is essential
- Experience of gas turbine instrumentation design and standard application techniques would be beneficial but is not essential
- Sound understanding of mechanical engineering design principles and analysis techniques
- Capable of checking engineering drawings and design solutions
- Experience in NX or Solidworks CAD software
- Experience of Windchill PLM system or similar would be beneficial
- The ability to work independently or as part of a team and if necessary, act as a team leader for a small team of designers
- Experience of working on gas turbine OEM recent projects or Special Purpose Machinery or Tooling Design
- Knowledge of electronic mechanical systems
- Keen to learn new skills and develop new processes
Physical Demands & Locations:
- Predominately an office based role, there may be occasional requirements to operate within the workshop or visit customer sites, including production and test facilities. The jobholder shall be required to work in accordance with the relevant site Health & Safety Policy.
- From time to time, it may be necessary for the jobholder to undertake reasonable tasks on behalf of the company, which would not normally be regarded as part of the role. The jobholder shall carry these out to the best of their ability.
- The position may require travel both in the UK and possibly overseas. The jobholder shall hold a full UK driving licence and Passport.
