Glen Miller Funeral Directors is a well-established, family-run local business serving families across South Tyneside, Sunderland and surrounding areas. Due to the retirement of a long-serving member of our team, we are looking for a caring, reliable and dedicated Funeral Service Operative to join us on a full-time, permanent basis.
Working in the funeral profession is a unique and rewarding career. You will be supporting families during one of the most difficult times in their lives, helping to ensure that every funeral is carried out with dignity, care and professionalism.
We are looking for someone who is naturally compassionate, respectful and comfortable dealing with people from all walks of life. Previous experience in the funeral profession would be an advantage, but it is not essential. Full training will be provided.
Duties include:
● Supporting and reassuring bereaved families
● Bringing the deceased into our care with dignity and respect
● Assisting with funeral services, including pallbearing
● Mortuary duties, including preparation and dressing of the deceased
● Preparing the deceased for viewings and services (cremation or burial)
● Coffin preparation and associated duties
● Administrative and IT-based tasks
● Maintaining high standards of presentation and professionalism
● Participating in an out-of-hours on-call rota and attending call-outs when required
About you:
● Aged 21 or over and job-ready
● Full, clean UK driving licence (required)
● Compassionate, respectful and professional
● Good communication and listening skills
● Basic IT and admin skills
● Reliable, flexible and a team player
● Smart and professional appearance
● Willing to work with the deceased and undertake mortuary duties
Salary & hours:
Salary will be discussed at interview and dependent on experience.
Full-time, Monday to Friday, with participation in an out-of-hours on-call rota. Additional payments apply for call-outs.
