Gilpin Demolition Group is an established and growing group of companies operating across demolition, asbestos removal, waste recycling, scrap metal and environmental services throughout the South West.
We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Company Accountant to join our senior management team.
This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious accountant who wants more than just producing accounts. You will play a key role in supporting strategic decision-making, influencing business performance and providing financial leadership across multiple trading companies within the group.
Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, you will have responsibility for the complete finance function across the group and become a trusted adviser to senior management.
What You'll Be Doing
Financial Management & Reporting
- Prepare accurate monthly management accounts for multiple group companies.
- Produce Board reports, financial packs and KPI dashboards with insightful commentary.
- Develop annual budgets, forecasts and cashflow projections.
- Monitor financial performance and identify opportunities to improve profitability and efficiency.
- Prepare quarterly VAT returns, monthly CIS returns and oversee compliance requirements.
- Support external audits and year-end accounting processes.
- Prepare financial schedules and assist with corporation tax planning.
Commercial & Operational Support
- Monitor contract profitability and produce work-in-progress reporting.
- Partner with operational managers and quantity surveyors to provide financial insights and support commercial decision-making.
- Ensure timely billing, applications for payment and effective credit control.
- Manage inter-company transactions and reconciliations.
- Provide analysis and recommendations to support business growth and investment decisions.
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, support and develop the Accounts Team.
- Ensure robust financial controls, processes and procedures are maintained.
- Drive continuous improvement and efficiencies within the finance function.
- Assist with systems development and process enhancements where required.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for an individual who combines strong technical accounting skills with a practical and commercial approach.
Essential
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified, or qualified by significant relevant experience.
- Proven experience in a senior accounting or finance management role.
- Strong knowledge of management accounting, financial reporting and cashflow management.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience using Sage accounting software or similar financial systems.
- Excellent analytical ability with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills with confidence presenting financial information to directors and senior managers.
- Ability to prioritise workloads and meet tight deadlines.
Desirable
- Construction, demolition, waste, recycling or contracting industry experience.
- Knowledge of Sage 50 Accounts.
- Experience with Eque2 Construct or similar construction accounting software.
- Previous experience managing or mentoring finance staff.
