At Places for People, we believe that great homes and thriving communities start with great people. We're now looking for an Assistant Technical Manager to join our Places Developments technical team, supporting the delivery of high-quality development projects across our portfolio.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone early in their technical career who is ambitious, eager to learn and keen to build hands-on experience in residential development.
What you'll be doing
As an Assistant Technical Manager, you'll support senior members of the team in delivering the technical aspects of a varied portfolio of residential development projects across the Midlands and North region.
This is a predominantly home-based role, with the team coming together at our Leeds office every Thursday. There may also be occasional site visits as required to support project delivery.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating designs from external consultants and actively participating in design team meetings
- Managing and coordinating production drawings and specifications, ensuring compliance with CDM regulations and temporary works standards
- Supporting local authority approvals including Building Control, planning conditions, S38, S104 (England) and Warrant/RCC (Scotland)
- Assisting the Development team with technical input to planning applications
- Building effective working relationships with NHBC and Building Control to support timely CML and plot completions
- Supporting handovers to Commercial, Build, Sales and Asset teams and providing clear, accurate technical information
- Developing a basic understanding of key technical areas including planning systems, utilities, geotechnical and environmental constraints (e.g. noise, ecology)
- Preparing reports and progress schedules for the Head of Technical / Technical Director
- Assisting with tracking fees and costs and reporting on variances
What we're looking for
Essential criteria:
- Experience within the construction or development industry
- Strong communication skills
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office
- Able to work well as part of a team, while also using your own judgement and working independently
- Ambitious, motivated and keen to learn
Desirable:
- Degree qualified in Construction, Architecture or Engineering
- Knowledge of CDM Regulations and building safety act
- Ability to adapt to new systems, standards and regulations
- Comfortable working on your own initiative
