CNC Turner / CNC Machinist
We are looking for an experienced CNC Turner / CNC Machinist to join a small, skilled production team. You will be responsible for setting and operating a range of CNC lathes, producing high-quality components to the required specification, tolerances and production timescales.
Key Responsibilities
You will set and operate a variety of CNC machinery, including Citizen sliding head machines, fixed-head twin turret lathes and CNC chucking lathes, with some programme editing where required.
You will undertake batch production to meet agreed volume, cost and quality targets, while working closely with colleagues to maintain efficient production. The role will also involve carrying out first-off, last-off and routine inspections to ensure components consistently meet the required standards.
You will be expected to carry out basic machine maintenance, keep your working area clean and organised, and contribute to a strong 5S and continuous improvement culture.
What You Will Be Responsible For
- Ensuring all components are machined accurately and within specified tolerances and batch quantities.
- Maintaining a right-first-time approach to production and quality.
- Following high standards of Quality, Health & Safety and housekeeping.
- Actively supporting and maintaining 5S standards.
- Contributing to continuous improvement and Six Sigma initiatives.
- Identifying and resolving technical or equipment-related issues promptly.
- Working efficiently to ensure production targets and deadlines are achieved.
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in CNC programming, setting and operating.
- Experience working with CNC lathes, ideally including sliding head, twin turret or chucking machines.
- Strong technical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make confident decisions.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple tasks.
- Numerate, logical and methodical approach to work.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and ERP systems.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Flexible and positive approach to getting the job done.
- Good understanding and practical application of 5S and continuous improvement principles.
Qualifications & Experience
Ideally, you will be apprentice trained or qualified in Mechanical Engineering, with at least one year’s hands-on experience setting and operating CNC machinery.
You will have a proven track record of producing quality components on time and in full, with a strong understanding of production, quality and efficiency requirements.
