We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Lab / Quality Technician to join our team. This role is essential in ensuring that our products consistently meet customer specifications, industry standards, and quality requirements.
Working closely with production and quality teams, you will perform laboratory testing, metallurgical inspections, and quality assurance activities to support the processes. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop a career within a technically focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform hardness testing, microstructure evaluation, case depth analysis, and other metallurgical examinations.
- Prepare and process samples for laboratory testing and analysis.
- Maintain accurate inspection records, test reports, and quality documentation.
- Assist with pyrometry activities, including thermocouple management, Temperature Uniformity Surveys (TUS), System Accuracy Tests (SAT) and instrument calibration activities
- Support investigations into non-conforming materials, process deviations, and customer quality concerns.
- Assist in internal audits and continuous improvement activities.
- Ensure laboratory equipment is maintained, calibrated, and fit for purpose.
- Support compliance with quality standards, including ISO 9001 and customer-specific requirements.
- Work closely with production teams to identify opportunities for quality and process improvements.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping, health & safety, and environmental compliance within the laboratory and production areas.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Good attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
- Strong numerical and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to interpret technical instructions and follow documented procedures.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
- GCSEs (or equivalent) including Mathematics, English, and Science.
Desirable
- Previous experience in a manufacturing, laboratory, metallurgical, or quality control environment.
- Knowledge of heat treatment processes such as carburising, nitrocarburizing or induction hardening.
- Experience of hardness testing methods (Rockwell, Vickers, Brinell).
- Understanding of metallurgical testing and microstructure analysis.
- Familiarity with quality management systems such as ISO 9001.
- Relevant qualification in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related discipline.
