The Role
We are seeking a proactive and detail-focused Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will support the day-to-day finance function by ensuring financial transactions are processed accurately and on time, maintaining accounting records, and assisting with reconciliations, reporting, and month-end activities.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage the Accounts inbox, responding to queries and distributing documentation as required.
- Process supplier and subcontractor invoices, ensuring correct coding, authorisation and posting into Sage.
- Maintain the aged creditors process, including supplier statement reconciliations and payment support.
- Assist with bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
- Prepare and post journals, including accruals, prepayments and adjustments.
- Reconcile financial and operational records, maintaining accurate spreadsheets and supporting documentation.
- Assist with the maintenance of fixed asset, loan, hire purchase and accrual schedules.
- Support month-end procedures and nominal ledger close activities.
- Process intercompany charges, customer card payments and credit card reconciliations.
- Investigate and resolve supplier and invoice queries.
- Provide cover for banking and cashiering duties when required.
About You
Essential
- AAT qualified, part-qualified, or studying towards ACCA, CIMA or a similar qualification.
- Previous experience in a finance or accounting role.
- Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger processes.
- Experience using accounting software such as Sage 200 or similar.
- Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
- Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills and numerical ability.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Desirable
- Experience within logistics, transport or a similar operational environment.
- Experience supporting month-end processes.
- Intermediate Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and Lookups.
- Knowledge of accruals, prepayments and financial controls.
