About Encortec
Encortec is a University of Exeter spin-out developing self-powered, low-power IoT monitoring systems for industrial assets and critical infrastructure.
We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Power Electronics Engineer to support the development, testing and optimisation of our existing power-management hardware.
The Role
Our power-management schematic and overall architecture are already developed. The main focus of this role is to review, test, debug and improve the existing design for low power electronic power management of energy harvesting, particularly:
- Low-power operation and power-consumption optimisation
- DC-DC converter and power-management performance
- Circuit stability and transient performance
- Prototype testing and hardware debugging
- Identifying root causes and implementing practical circuit improvements
You will work closely with our engineering team and external manufacturing partner.
Essential Experience
We are looking for someone with proven commercial or industrial power-electronics experience and strong practical problem-solving skills.
Essential:
- Hands-on experience with real power-electronic products.
- Personally reviewed, designed, built, tested and debugged power-electronic hardware.
- Experience with low-power electronics and power-consumption optimisation.
- DC-DC converters and switching power supplies.
- MOSFETs, switching circuits and feedback/control loops.
- Practical oscilloscope-based testing and debugging.
- Ability to identify root causes and implement effective hardware solutions.
Highly Desirable
- Ultra-low power consumption power-management and analogue electronics.
- Circuit stability and transient analysis.
- Prototype-to-product development.
- Experience working with external PCB manufacturing partners.
The Person
We are looking for a practical problem solver, and we particularly value engineers who can demonstrate successful hands-on experience of:
design review → build → test → debug → redesign → validation
and who can make measurable improvements to real products.
Regular on-site work in Exeter is required because the role involves hands-on work with prototype hardware and laboratory testing.
This part-time role may suit an experienced senior engineer, consultant or independent engineer who would like to contribute to an innovative technology company.
