Overview
Afternoons 1.30 ish - 5 ish. We are seeking a compassionate and organised Activity Coordinator to join our team within a care home specialising care for the elderly and dementia care. This is a job share position and the ideal candidate will be sharing responsibility for planning and facilitating engaging activities that enhance the quality of life for residents, including those with dementia and Alzheimer's. This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of older adults by creating stimulating and enjoyable experiences tailored to their needs. Applicants should possess excellent communication skills and experience in assisted living or care home environments.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a diverse programme of activities suitable for residents with varying levels of mobility and cognitive ability, including dementia and Alzheimer's care.
- Foster a warm, inclusive environment that encourages participation and social interaction among residents.
- Collaborate with care staff to assess individual needs and preferences, ensuring activities are personalised and appropriate.
- Organise group events, that promote mental stimulation, physical activity, and emotional well-being.
- Monitor residents’ engagement levels and adapt activities accordingly to maximise participation and enjoyment.
- Maintain accurate records of activity participation, feedback, and any special requirements or restrictions.
- Promote a positive atmosphere that supports residents’ independence, dignity, and overall happiness.
- Spend time with residents in their rooms who prefer not to join in with other residents to encourage social interaction
Experience
- Prior experience working within assisted living facilities, nursing homes or similar care environments is desirable although not necessary.
- Knowledge of senior care practices, including dementia and Alzheimer’s care, is essential.
- Proven caregiving experience demonstrating patience, empathy, and excellent communication skills.
- Familiarity with organising recreational activities tailored for older adults with diverse needs is advantageous.
