We are looking for a friendly, organised and enthusiastic Host to join our team.
This is a great role for someone who enjoys working with people and takes pride in creating a welcoming environment. You will be responsible for making sure our residents have an enjoyable mealtime experience – preparing dining areas, serving meals and drinks, keeping everything clean and well presented, and helping make mealtimes a positive part of the day.
This is not a personal care role and you will not be required to provide personal care or administer medication.
What you’ll be doing
As a Host, you’ll take ownership of the dining experience during your shift. Your duties will include:
- Preparing the dining room before meals and laying tables to a high standard
- Serving meals and drinks to residents in a friendly and respectful manner
- Offering residents choices and helping with straightforward food and drink requests
- Preparing sandwiches, soups, snacks and other simple food items
- Preparing and managing drinks trolleys and refreshments
- Making sure residents who choose to eat or drink in their rooms receive their refreshments
- Clearing tables and washing up throughout the day
- Keeping the kitchen, dining room and service areas clean, tidy and welcoming
- Completing straightforward food safety and temperature records
- Working alongside the care team to make sure mealtimes run smoothly
- Helping us create a calm, sociable and enjoyable atmosphere for our residents
Who we’re looking for
You don’t necessarily need previous care home experience.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Is friendly, approachable and enjoys talking to people
- Takes pride in cleanliness and presentation
- Is organised and able to work independently
- Notices the little things that make an environment feel welcoming
- Is reliable and works well as part of a team
- Understands the importance of hygiene and food safety
- Treats older people with dignity, patience and respect
Experience in hospitality, catering, cafés, restaurants, hotels or a similar customer-facing environment would be useful, but the right attitude is more important.
A different kind of care home role
Our Hosts are there specifically to focus on food, refreshments and the residents’ dining experience.
You will not be expected to:
- Provide personal care
- Administer medication
- Make clinical or dietary decisions
- Complete care plans
This allows you to concentrate on making the dining areas run brilliantly and giving residents the kind of service and experience we would want for our own families.
