About the Role
We are looking for a friendly, reliable and relatable Personal Assistant to support a 19-year-old young man with learning disabilities and additional needs.
This is a varied, person-centred role involving personal care, social and community support, companionship and practical support within the family home.
As he is 19, finding someone he can genuinely relate to is important. The successful candidate should be approachable, easy to get along with and able to build a natural, trusting relationship with him while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
Main Duties
- Providing one-to-one, person-centred support.
- Supporting with personal care, including washing, dressing, grooming and toileting where required.
- Supporting with medication in line with agreed arrangements and training.
- Providing emotional reassurance and support.
- Supporting independence and daily living skills.
- Accompanying him on days out, social activities, shopping, appointments and community activities.
- Encouraging hobbies, interests, social inclusion and age-appropriate experiences.
- Preparing and cooking meals.
- Supporting the wider family with household duties where this directly or indirectly benefits the young person.
- Carrying out general household tasks, including cleaning, laundry and maintaining a safe and comfortable home environment.
- Recognising and responding appropriately to changes in health, wellbeing, mood or behaviour.
- Maintaining dignity, privacy, confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries.
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Friendly, patient, reliable and consistent. Relatable and comfortable building a positive relationship with a 19-year-old.
- Able to communicate naturally while remaining professional. Comfortable providing personal care.
- Willing to help with practical household duties, including cooking and cleaning.
- Able to work independently and use good judgement.
- Flexible and willing to support a range of activities both at home and in the community.
- Previous experience in care or supporting people with learning disabilities is desirable but not essential for the right person.
Driving
A full UK driving licence and the ability to drive a manual vehicle are preferred but not essential. Occasional local travel may be required as part of the role.
DBS Requirement
The successful applicant will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check.
Hours and Availability
Both part-time and full-time hours are available. Hours may include daytime, evening and night work, as well as weekends. Flexibility of hours can be accommodated on request.
