We are seeking a dedicated Bookkeeper or Accountant to join our team in. This role is vital in managing our financial records and ensuring smooth accounting operations that support our company's growth and commitment to quality.
The Role
This is a hands-on bookkeeping role covering the full transactional accounting cycle. You will work closely with the senior leadership team, taking responsibility for maintaining accurate financial records using Xero. The role also carries responsibility for producing detailed ledger reconciliations to support third-party funding requirements, making accuracy and timeliness critical.
Key ResponsibilitiesPurchase Ledger & Accounts Payable
- Code and process supplier invoices accurately within Xero, ensuring correct nominal and VAT treatment.
- Maintain the purchase ledger, allocating payments made to the correct supplier accounts.
- Manage supplier communications, responding professionally to queries and overdue payment chasers.
- Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
Credit Control & Sales Ledger
- Allocate customer receipts to the correct sales ledger accounts within Xero.
- Proactively chase overdue customer balances by telephone and email, maintaining a professional and constructive approach.
- Maintain accurate records of all credit control activity and escalate where appropriate.
- Produce and submit a detailed monthly sales ledger reconciliation in the format required by the company’s third-party funding provider.
Bank Reconciliation
- Reconcile all bank account transactions using the Xero bank feed on a regular basis.
- Investigate and resolve unreconciled items promptly to ensure the bank is kept clean and up to date.
Balance Sheet Reconciliations
- Reconcile all balance sheet control accounts on a monthly basis, including debtors, creditors, VAT, and other relevant accounts.
- Prepare a thorough and documented monthly reconciliation of the sales ledger control account to satisfy the requirements of the company’s third-party funding arrangement.
- Flag any variances or anomalies to the Finance Manager with supporting analysis.
Payroll Posting
- Accurately post monthly payroll journals into Xero, working from reports and summaries provided by the company’s third-party payroll accountant.
- Reconcile payroll control accounts including PAYE/NIC liabilities and ensure correct treatment of employer costs.
Potential Candidate Attributes:
We're looking for a confident self starter with a passion for food and an interest in brands and small business. As a growing challenger brand a 'can-do' attitude and willingness to get to stuck into what ever the day presents is a must.
Must Haves:
- Proven experience in a similar bookkeeping or accounts role, ideally within an SME environment.
- Confident and proficient user of Xero, including bank feeds, purchase/sales ledgers, and reconciliation tools.
- Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and balance sheet control account reconciliation.
- Experience of both purchase ledger and credit control functions.
- Highly accurate, organised, and able to work to deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for dealing with suppliers and customers.
Other Desirables:
- Experience working within a food manufacturing, FMCG, or product-based business.
- Familiarity with invoice financing or other third-party funding arrangements and associated reporting requirements.
- AAT qualification (full or part) or equivalent bookkeeping certification.
- Experience posting payroll journals and reconciling payroll-related control accounts.
