A versatile candidate is required to fulfil the Operations/Supervisor role within the company
Working within a team of 10 people, the prospective candidate would have the responsibility to coordinate and supervise, day to day, the resources to meet customer sales, quality and delivery expectations. After an initial 6 weeks onboarding the role of supervising daily operations and the team is required
After onboarding the prospective candidate would be required to:
- Supervise staff in various warehouse capacities. This would eventually involve recruitment, training, discipline, health & safety, absenteeism and general housekeeping.
- Coordinate and supervise staff rotas weekly to meet workflows
- Ensure departments including sales work well together in the business.
- Work closely with the Director to ensure operations deliver what the business requires.
- Coordinate the efficient unloading, checking and storage of container deliveries as they arrive, ensuring sensible & safe stock storage.
- Responsibility for maintaining various machines from shredders to forklift trucks.
- Have a good understanding of Health & Safety and be able to maintain risk assessments, fire drills, plant and equipment testing, staff training as well as site security.
- Responsibility for negotiating and ensuing various service contracts are in place. As well as ensuring they are carried out to the required standard.
- Purchasing role including involvement in stock control as well as organising annual stock takes.
- Resolve, as best is possible, any trade customer issues arising on site.
- To include additional duties as assigned once confidence in the role is fully established.
In order to succeed in this position a degree of experience in a similar role is essential as well as having:
- A few years’ operations experience & proven success therein.
- Clear communication skills.
- Good people skills with heathy professional boundaries to best fulfil the supervisory function.
- Good numeracy skills
- Good experience of in-house IT systems in order to be self-reliant on our processing systems (after the initial training). Additionally, fluency in office and excel and outlook would also be essential.
- A good understanding of a pick and pack business, and general confidence with warehousing operations, again, in order to be self-reliant in the role on offer.
- A normal level of fitness and willingness to get stuck in. This is a “hands on” role requiring full participation within the current team, including operating both a forklift truck Reach and Counter Balance. Operating licences would be needed.
- A full quota of common sense.
This is a long-term proposition for the right person and will require this mind-set from the outset. There will be the opportunity to expand the position and assist in other areas of the business.
Once settled, the successful candidate will have the responsibility of being a key holder, ensure the building is opened by 7.30am and warehouse secure when leaving. They will also be available should alarms go off outside office hours.
The general hours of work are 8.00 - 17.00 Monday to Thursday, 8.00 to 1.00pm on Friday.
A degree of flexibility will be needed from both sides with the offered role roughly following a 39-hour week. The flexibility required is due to trade seasonality, delayed courier collections or early morning deliveries that may be unavoidable. The successful candidate once familiar with the business is expected to attend & help at a couple of trade exhibitions.
