In this role, you will work closely with director, senior estimators and / or project managers to analyze all tender documents , quantify materials, and compile competitive bids for commercial projects. We offer a fast-paced, tech-forward environment with room for mentorship and career advancement.
Key Responsibilities
- Take-offs & Quantifications: Accurately measure and count electrical components (conduit, wiring, fixtures, switchgear) from digital formats and schematics.
- Vendor & Subcontractor Relations: Solicit, review, and analyze quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing and alignment with project scopes.
- Bid Preparation: Assist in compiling comprehensive cost estimates, including labour, materials, equipment, and overhead.
- Project Review: Review project specifications, RFPs (Requests for Proposals), and addendums to identify potential risks or value-engineering opportunities.
- Collaboration: Attend pre-bid meetings and collaborate with the project management team to ensure a smooth transition from the bidding phase to construction.
- Actively oversee, identify and carry out variation’s calculations.
- Applications - Prepare in advance all monthly applications in advance of contracts submission dates.
- Project Commitment – oversee all project costs and variations to the final account.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 2 - 4 years of experience in electrical estimating, following a strong background as an NVQ level 3 electrical apprentice and engineer looking to transition into the office. (A degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is a major plus).
- Tech-Savvy: Proficiency with digital estimating software (e.g., ConEst, McCormick, Bluebeam, Accubid) and Microsoft Excel.
- Drive & Motivation: A self-starter attitude with a strong desire to learn, grow, and take ownership of projects.
- Analytical Mindset: Exceptional mathematical skills and a eagle-eye attention to detail—you don't miss the fine print.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively negotiate with vendors and present data to leadership.
