About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join Calderdale Youth Justice Service at the start of a significant new prevention programme. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping how Young Futures Prevention Panels operate locally, helping children and young people access the right support at the right time and preventing escalation into the criminal justice system.
Calderdale Youth Justice Service is a statutory service working with children and young people aged 10-18 who are subject to court orders, out-of-court disposals or preventative support. The service works in partnership to prevent offending and improve outcomes for children, families and communities.
Based within Calderdale Youth Justice Service, this is a high-impact partnership role that will sit at the heart of our prevention work. The post holder will support the principal aim of the Youth Justice Service: to prevent offending by children and young people. In doing so, you will contribute to our vision of a Child First youth justice system by providing early intervention that addresses factors which place children and young people at risk of offending, including personal, family, social, educational and health-related factors, whilst strengthening protective factors.
The Young Futures Prevention Panel Worker will work closely with the Young Futures Prevention Panel Coordinator and all Youth Justice Service staff, including Practice Managers, case workers, case managers and specialist practitioners. Working collaboratively with colleagues across the Council and wider partner agencies, you will help deliver effective early intervention and support, achieving positive outcomes for children, young people and their families whilst contributing to safer communities.
As this is a new and developing area of work, the successful candidate will play an important role in shaping the delivery of Young Futures Prevention Panels across Calderdale. Full induction, training and ongoing professional development opportunities will be provided, together with regular supervision and support, to ensure you are equipped to deliver high-quality interventions with children, young people and families.
For full details of the responsibilities and requirements of this role, please refer to the Role Profile and Person Specification.
About the Young Futures Programme
The Young Futures Programme is a key part of the delivery of the Safer Streets Mission. Through this programme, the Government aims to intervene earlier to ensure that children and young people who are vulnerable to poorer outcomes and being drawn into crime are identified and offered support in a more systematic way. The programme also seeks to increase support and opportunities available within local communities.
Young Futures Prevention Panels will identify children and young people who are vulnerable to being drawn into crime and ensure they can access appropriate support through targeted interventions and services.
In West Yorkshire, funding for Young Futures Prevention Panels is provided through the regional Violence Reduction Partnership via the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.
This project will take a partnership approach across Calderdale, supporting and enhancing the wider early help and prevention offer for children, young people and families.
You will be expected to work closely with colleagues both within and outside the Youth Justice Service in order to fulfil the requirements of the role. You will also participate in weekday office duty on a rota basis and respond to reasonable ad hoc requests. As the role is focused on supporting children, young people and families, some evening and occasional weekend working will be required to meet service needs. Regular supervision and management support will be provided.
You will actively participate in training, peer support, reflective practice and learning and development opportunities to support your own professional growth and the continued development of the service.
This is not a complete statement of all duties and responsibilities of the post. The post holder may be required to carry out such other duties as are reasonably commensurate with the level of the post and as directed by their line manager.
About You
You will be flexible in your approach to working hours and able to undertake some evening and occasional weekend work to meet the needs of children, young people, families and partner agencies.
You will be a highly organised individual, able to manage data, reporting requirements and deadlines effectively, and capable of communicating clearly and professionally with children, families and partner agencies.
You will be proficient in the use of IT systems, including Microsoft Office applications, and able to work effectively under pressure whilst maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
Please refer to the Role Profile and Person Specification for full details of the essential and desirable criteria for this post.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. Applicants for posts that are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act will be required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check before any appointment is confirmed.
