Job Overview
The Bartender is responsible for delivering exceptional beverage service while maintaining the highest standards of quality, efficiency and guest engagement. You will prepare and serve a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, maintain a clean and organised bar and contribute to creating an outstanding atmosphere throughout every service.
This role requires excellent product knowledge, strong communication skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced hospitality environment. Working closely with the front of house, kitchen and events teams, you will ensure every guest enjoys a memorable Soul Mama experience.
Key Responsibilities
Beverage Preparation & Service
Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to company specifications while maintaining consistency, presentation and quality. Deliver prompt, friendly and knowledgeable service to guests, confidently recommending drinks, cocktails and promotions to enhance the overall guest experience. Ensure all orders are prepared accurately and efficiently while maintaining high service standards during busy periods.
Bar Operations & Stock Management
Maintain a clean, organised and fully stocked bar throughout every shift. Prepare the bar for service by ensuring adequate levels of stock, glassware, ice, garnishes and equipment are available. Monitor stock levels throughout service, rotate products correctly and communicate shortages promptly to supervisors or management. Assist with stock counts, deliveries and bar setup as required.
Guest Experience
Create a welcoming atmosphere by engaging positively with guests and delivering friendly, professional service. Demonstrate excellent product knowledge across the drinks menu, cocktails, wines, beers, spirits and current promotions. Resolve guest queries professionally and escalate complaints or incidents appropriately to management while maintaining exceptional service standards.
Teamwork & Operational Support
Work collaboratively with bar staff, servers, runners, kitchen and events teams to ensure smooth and efficient service. Support colleagues during busy periods and contribute to opening, closing and cleaning procedures. Assist with training new team members when required and lead by example through professionalism, reliability and a positive attitude.
Live Events & Venue Operations
Support bar operations during live performances, brunches and private events while maintaining speed, quality and consistency of service. Work closely with the production, sound and front of house teams to ensure seamless transitions between dining service and live entertainment. Remain adaptable to changing operational requirements throughout each shift.
Health, Safety & Compliance
Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and food safety throughout the bar. Ensure all licensing regulations, Challenge 25 procedures and responsible alcohol service guidelines are followed. Operate equipment safely, complete opening and closing checklists accurately and report maintenance, safety or compliance concerns immediately. Present yourself professionally at all times and adhere to Soul Mama policies and House Rules.
Communication & Business Support
Communicate effectively with supervisors, managers and colleagues across all departments to support efficient operations. Attend team briefings and training sessions, remain informed of menu updates, promotions and upcoming events, and contribute ideas that enhance service quality and guest satisfaction.
Skills & Experience
Previous experience as a bartender within a busy bar, restaurant or hospitality venue is preferred. Strong knowledge of classic cocktails, spirits, wines, beers and beverage preparation. Excellent communication and customer service skills with a passion for creating memorable guest experiences. Confident using POS and payment systems with the ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Flexible to work evenings, weekends and live events.

Desirable but not essential
Experience working within a premium cocktail bar, restaurant or live music venue. Knowledge of wines, premium spirits and cocktail preparation. Personal Licence holder. Food Safety Level 2 qualification. Experience using hospitality POS systems.
