Lewis Pies are a family-owned company who have been making pastries, breads and cakes since 1936. We have an exciting opportunity for a Hygiene Operator to join our team at our Fforestfach site in Swansea.
As a Hygiene Operator, you will play an important role in maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene and food safety throughout our production areas. You will work primarily within our production washroom, with responsibilities extending to the wider factory when required.
The role involves ensuring production equipment, machinery and surrounding areas are cleaned thoroughly, safely and within the required timeframes to ensure the site remains ready for production and audit at all times.
Responsibilities of our Hygiene Operators are:
- Cleaning production machinery, equipment, trays, utensils and other items to a high standard.
- Ensuring cleaning tasks are completed thoroughly, safely and within the required timeframes.
- Cleaning and maintaining production washroom areas to a high standard.
- Ensuring floors, walls, sinks, drains and other areas are kept clean and hygienic.
- Following cleaning schedules and procedures accurately.
- Using cleaning chemicals and equipment safely and correctly following appropriate training.
- Following all COSHH, Health & Safety, Food Safety and hygiene procedures.
- Ensuring all cleaning equipment is maintained, stored correctly and kept in good condition.
- Identifying and reporting any cleaning, maintenance, food safety or Health & Safety issues to the relevant supervisor or manager.
- Ensuring production areas are audit-ready at all times and meet the required company and BRC standards.
- Completing hygiene and cleaning records accurately and in a timely manner.
- Working closely with the Production and Technical teams to ensure cleaning requirements are completed effectively and production schedules are maintained.
- Supporting hygiene activities across the wider factory when required.
- Maintaining a CAYG (Clean As You Go) attitude throughout the working day.
- Minimising the risk of contamination by following correct cleaning, sanitation and hygiene procedures.
- Following company policies and procedures at all times.
The successful candidate will have to display:
- A strong work ethic and positive attitude.
- Excellent attention to detail and pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
- The ability to work to timescales and complete cleaning tasks within required deadlines.
- The ability to work independently and use their own initiative.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- A strong awareness of Health & Safety, Food Safety and hygiene requirements.
- The ability to follow cleaning procedures and instructions accurately.
- The willingness to work with cleaning chemicals and equipment following appropriate training.
- Physical capability to undertake manual handling activities and carry out cleaning tasks.
- The ability to work in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment.
Previous hygiene or cleaning experience within a factory or food manufacturing environment would be advantageous but is not essential, as full training will be provided, including the safe use of chemicals and cleaning equipment.
