The Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and commercially minded Underwriter to join a high-performing risk team. This role will play a critical part in assessing merchant applications, managing risk exposure, and supporting sustainable growth across global markets.
You’ll work cross-functionally with product, compliance, and commercial teams to ensure underwriting decisions are both data-driven and aligned with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and underwrite new merchant applications across multiple jurisdictions
- Analyse financial statements, transaction data, and risk indicators to inform decisions
- Monitor existing merchant portfolios and recommend adjustments where necessary
- Collaborate with onboarding, compliance, and fraud teams to streamline approval processes
- Contribute to the development and refinement of underwriting policies and risk frameworks
- Support automation initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve underwriting efficiency
- Ensure adherence to regulatory and internal compliance standards
Requirements
- Proven experience in underwriting, risk analysis, or credit assessment within Payments
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial and transactional data
- Understanding of merchant acquiring, card schemes, and payments risk
- Familiarity with AML/KYC requirements and regulatory considerations
- Ability to balance risk management with commercial growth objectives
- Excellent attention to detail and decision-making skills
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
