Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and dedicated Support Worker to join our team within a care home supporting adults with learning disabilities. The successful candidate will provide person-centred care and practical support to help residents live safely, confidently, and as independently as possible. This role involves supporting daily routines, promoting choice and dignity, encouraging independence, and helping residents take part in meaningful activities within the home and wider community. You will play an important role in creating a safe, respectful, inclusive, and supportive environment where each individual is valued and encouraged to achieve their personal goals.
Responsibilities
· Support residents with daily routines, including personal care, dressing, bathing, meal preparation, household tasks, and maintaining a clean and safe living environment
· Provide emotional reassurance, encouragement, and respectful support to adults with learning disabilities, autism, communication needs, or complex support needs
· Promote independence, choice, dignity, privacy, and inclusion by supporting residents to make decisions about their daily lives
· Assist residents to develop and maintain life skills such as communication, personal organisation, cooking, cleaning, budgeting, and self-care where appropriate
· Support residents to take part in meaningful activities, hobbies, appointments, social opportunities, and community outings
· Follow individual care plans, risk assessments, communication plans, and behaviour support plans to provide consistent and safe support
· Use positive behaviour support, calm communication, and de-escalation techniques when supporting individuals who may become distressed or display behaviours that challenge
· Communicate effectively with residents, families, advocates, colleagues, healthcare professionals, and other agencies to ensure consistent support
· Maintain accurate and timely records of care, support, activities, incidents, appointments, and progress using written or electronic systems
· Promote safeguarding, health and safety, infection prevention, confidentiality, and respectful working practices at all times
Requirements
· Experience supporting adults with learning disabilities, autism, complex needs, or behaviours that may challenge is desirable, but full training may be provided for the right candidate
· A caring, patient, respectful, and positive approach to supporting vulnerable adults
· Good communication skills, with the ability to listen, adapt communication style, and build trusting relationships with residents
· Understanding of person-centred care, dignity, choice, independence, safeguarding, and confidentiality
· Ability to work as part of a team and follow care plans, risk assessments, policies, and procedures
· Willingness to support with personal care, daily living tasks, activities, appointments, and community access
· Ability to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, sleep-ins, waking nights, or unsociable hours where required
· Relevant qualifications or training in health and social care are desirable but not essential
· A valid DBS check or willingness to undergo one prior to employment
