St John Ambulance works at the heart of communities, supporting and enabling them to access and receive physical and mental health first aid. We do this through developing and providing effective community response and outreach services (e.g. Ambulance response) and using our longstanding expertise to empower people with vital clinical skills and the confidence to use them (e.g. our Volunteers and Community Advocates, and Young Responders programmes).
Job Summary

We are looking for a Casual Learning and Engagement Assistant to support the delivery of creative, inclusive, and engaging learning programmes for families, schools, community groups, and our St John Ambulance Badgers and Cadets.
This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a wide range of onsite, digital, and outreach activities that bring learning to life in meaningful and accessible ways. You will play a key part in ensuring all visitors and participants have a welcoming and high-quality experience, while supporting the smooth planning and delivery of sessions and events.
Working as part of a collaborative team, you will assist with programme logistics, resource preparation, and administrative tasks, helping to ensure activities are well-organised, inclusive, and impactful. You will also contribute to accurate record-keeping and support the delivery of the Museum’s Audience Development Plan through effective coordination and teamwork.
About You
- You are educated to GCSE level (or equivalent), including Maths and English, with a minimum of five qualifications.
- You have experience working with children and young people in educational, cultural, community, or youth-focused environments.
- You have experience supporting or delivering engaging activities, workshops, presentations, or visitor-facing experiences (desirable).
- You have strong administrative and organisational skills, with experience supporting team-based delivery and maintaining accurate records.
- You are confident delivering excellent customer service in a public-facing environment, ensuring a welcoming and positive visitor experience.
- You have strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively and appropriately with a wide range of audiences.
- You are highly organised, detail-focused, and able to manage your time effectively while working calmly in a busy environment.
- You are a collaborative and adaptable team player who is proficient in MS Office, able to work independently when required, and committed to upholding the HEART values of St John Ambulance.
About the role
- Support the delivery of inclusive, accessible, and engaging learning experiences for a diverse range of visitors, including families, schools, community groups, and St John Ambulance Badgers and Cadets.
- Assist with the planning, preparation, delivery, and evaluation of workshops, tours, outreach sessions, and public learning programmes.
- Help with the setup, hosting, and clear down of learning activities and events, ensuring a welcoming and well-organised visitor experience.
- Provide programme and administrative support, including managing bookings, maintaining accurate records, preparing resources, and updating databases.
- Support visitor engagement activity, including responding to enquiries, distributing publicity materials, and gathering feedback to evaluate programme impact.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, volunteers, and partners while adhering to safeguarding, health and safety, equality, and data protection policies at all times.
