Pharmacy Shop Floor Assistant
Please note: this is a full-time position.
Goldchem Pharmacy is a well-established independent community pharmacy in Southsea, Portsmouth. We provide a wide range of healthcare services to the local community, including prescription medicines, pharmacy services and vaccinations.
We are proud to offer a friendly, professional and welcoming environment for our patients and customers, and we are looking for an experienced Pharmacy Shop Floor Assistant to join our busy team.
Ideally, you will have previous experience working in a busy pharmacy, healthcare setting or similar customer-facing environment. Strong customer service skills are essential, together with a confident, friendly and professional approach when dealing with both customers and colleagues.
We are looking for someone who is adaptable, quick to learn and comfortable working as part of a busy team. Good IT skills, including email, texting, and internet browser usage are important, as is the ability to enter information accurately and efficiently.
Your role will include:
- Acting as a first point of contact for customers, both in person and over the telephone
- Answering general queries and providing appropriate basic advice, while referring clinical or more complex queries to the pharmacist when required
- Helping to ensure the pharmacy remains a clean, organised and welcoming environment
- Assisting customers with the purchase of both healthcare and non-healthcare products
- Receiving prescriptions from patients and handing out dispensed medicines in accordance with pharmacy procedures
- Assisting with stock control, ordering, pricing and merchandising within the shop
- Supporting the day-to-day running of the pharmacy and helping the wider team where required
- Assisting with selected pharmacy and clinical services, with appropriate training provided where necessary
- Supporting the vaccination clinic, including chaperoning patients and completing data entry when required
- Maintaining patient confidentiality and handling information appropriately at all times
What we are looking for:
- Previous experience in a pharmacy, healthcare or busy customer-facing environment is strongly preferred, but not required.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- A friendly, confident and professional manner
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail
- The ability to work efficiently in a busy environment
- A willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities
- Good general IT skills, including email and Microsoft Word
- Accurate data-entry skills
- A reliable and positive approach to working as part of a team
Training and progression
We want our team members to have the opportunity to develop their skills and progress within the pharmacy.
All shop staff will will be required to enroll on a Level 2 course, if they haven't already completed one, including Medicines Counter Assistant courses or additional pharmacy-related training.
There will also be opportunities to take on additional responsibilities over time, with the potential for career development and pay progression as your skills and experience grow.
