Rosewood Family Care is a three-bed children's residential home in Northolt, registered with Ofsted and rated Good. We provide trauma-informed care for young people aged 8 to 17 with emotional and behavioural difficulties, drawing on the PACE model and the Secure Base Model. We are a small, stable team, well led, and operate to the standards set out in the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the nine Quality Standards.
The role
The Children’s Residential Support Worker is a practitioner role. You will take part in shifts, model high-quality care to the wider team, and take a lead role in safeguarding, key working, behaviour support, and day-to-day decision making in the absence of the Registered Manager or Deputy. You will report to the Registered Manager.
Key responsibilities
- Join in day or night shifts, allocate tasks, and hold accountability for the safe running of the home during your shift.
- Provide direct trauma-informed care to children and young people, applying PACE and Secure Base principles in everyday practice.
- Act as Key Worker for assigned young people, including care planning, key work sessions, and contributing to LAC reviews, PEPs, and health assessments.
- Carry out and review risk assessments, including impact risk assessments for new placements and matching considerations.
- Administer medication in line with policy and maintain accurate MAR records.
- Support behaviour management, de-escalation, and post-incident recovery, completing clear and timely incident records.
- Recognise and respond to safeguarding concerns, including LADO referrals and Reg 40 notifiable events, escalating without delay to the Registered Manager or Responsible Individual.
- Supervise, mentor, and support junior staff and new starters during induction.
- Maintain accurate daily logs, handovers, and statutory records to a standard that withstands Ofsted scrutiny.
- Drive young people to school, appointments, contact, and activities.
Essential criteria
- Minimum one years' paid experience working in a children's residential home registered with Ofsted in England. Experience in adult services, supported living, semi-independent provision, residential schools, or fostering does not meet this requirement.
- Full UK driving licence, with confidence driving in West London.
- NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent), or willingness to complete within the statutory timeframe if not yet held.
- Sound working knowledge of the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015, the Quality Standards, and Working Together to Safeguard Children.
- Demonstrable experience of safeguarding practice, behaviour management, and de-escalation with young people who present complex needs.
- Eligible to work in the UK.
- Has or willing to undertake an enhanced DBS check.
- Available to work shifts including days, evenings, weekends, sleep-ins, and bank holidays on a rota basis.
Desirable
- Level 3 or Level 4 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, or working towards.
- PMVA or equivalent physical intervention training.
- First Aid, Safeguarding Level 3, and Medication Administration training in date.
- Experience of supporting Ofsted inspections.
