About the role
Meel Group is looking for an ambitious Junior Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team.
This is a great opportunity for someone who already has Quantity Surveying experience and is looking to develop their commercial career across a varied portfolio of mechanical, electrical and building fabric projects.
Working alongside experienced commercial and operational colleagues, you will support the financial and contractual management of projects from tender stage through to completion and final account.
As your experience and confidence develop, you will be given increasing commercial responsibility and the opportunity to take greater ownership of your own projects, with a clear route for both professional and salary progression as you develop your RICS status.
What you’ll be doing
Your responsibilities will include:
· Assisting with the commercial management of mechanical, electrical and building fabric projects
· Preparing interim valuations, payment applications and supporting records
· Supporting the procurement and commercial management of subcontractors and suppliers
· Preparing tender enquiries, analysing quotations and producing tender comparisons
· Identifying, pricing and managing variations and change-control items
· Assisting with cost forecasting, cash-flow reporting and cost-value reconciliations
· Reviewing subcontractor applications and preparing payment recommendations
· Monitoring project costs, commitments, contractual obligations and commercial risks
· Working closely with Contracts Managers, engineers, clients, consultants and our supply chain
· Supporting final account preparation
· Maintaining accurate commercial records and documentation
What we’re looking for
We are looking for someone who is commercially aware, accurate, organised and proactive, with the confidence to work across project, commercial and operational teams.
Ideally, you will have:
· A minimum of 2–3 years’ experience within Quantity Surveying
· Experience within construction, building services, MEP or a specialist subcontracting environment
· A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction or Building Services
· RICS membership, or formal enrolment and active progress towards AssocRICS or MRICS through a recognised pathway
· Experience preparing valuations, managing variations and reviewing subcontractor accounts
· Strong numerical, analytical and commercial skills with excellent attention to detail
· Good written and verbal communication skills
· Confidence using Microsoft Excel and commercial systems
· The ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively as part of a project team
Experience or knowledge of mechanical, electrical and/or building fabric works would be advantageous. We don’t necessarily expect you to be an expert across all three disciplines.
What will help you succeed
· A working understanding of JCT and/or NEC forms of contract
· Experience of tendering, subcontract procurement and final accounts
· The confidence to challenge costs constructively and identify commercial risks early
· A proactive attitude and genuine desire to develop your commercial career
· A collaborative and organised approach with sound professional judgement
· A full UK driving licence and willingness to attend project sites would be advantageous
Salary & progression
We recognise professional development and progression through the RICS pathway within our salary structure:
· Working towards RICS / AssocRICS: Salary up to £45,000, dependent on experience
· AssocRICS: Salary up to £45,000, dependent on experience
· MRICS: Salary up to £55,000, dependent on experience
For candidates still progressing towards professional status, we will provide structured mentoring and support towards RICS membership.
What we offer
· Salary of up to £55,000, dependent on experience and RICS status
· Structured mentoring and support towards RICS status
· Exposure to a varied portfolio of mechanical, electrical and building fabric projects
