Deputy Manager in a Committee-Run Preschool
Job Purpose
To support the Preschool Manager in delivering high-quality EY provision and in ensuring compliance with EYFS and Ofsted regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Management
- Support the Preschool Manager in the daily operation of the preschool. Attend/participate in regular meetings/updates with the Manager and the other Deputy. Lead the Setting in the Manager’s absence. Supervise, support, and mentor staff and volunteers. Assist with staff inductions and professional development. Work collaboratively with the other Deputy. Support reporting to the Management Committee.
Childcare and Education
- Deliver high-quality EY education in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and the Preschool’s curriculum. Support staff in carrying on engaging and age-appropriate learning experiences as detailed in the termly planning. Monitor children’s learning and development via Tapestry. Promote inclusive practice and meet the individual needs of every child. Build positive relationships with children and families.
Safeguarding and Welfare
- Act as Deputy SENDco, regularly training alongside the Manager to plan and provide for children withspecial needs and/or disabilities. Ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are always followed. Promote children’s health, safety, and wellbeing. Maintain a safe, clean, and secure environment.
Administration
- Assist with maintaining children’s records and confidential documentation. Support attendance monitoring and record keeping. Share with the other Deputy tasks such as providing supplies and resources for the setting, as agreed/instructed by the Manager. Attend all staff meetings
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
- Level 3 qualification in Early Years Education and Childcare. Current Paediatric First Aid certificate (or willingness to obtain). Safeguarding training. GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
Essential Experience
- Experience working in an EY setting (children 2-5 YO) Experience supporting staff and leading practice. Knowledge of the EYFS framework.
Essential Skills
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, so to create excellent relationships with parents and carers. Strong knowledge of child development. Good organisational and time-management skills. Ability to motivate and support a team to achieve the setting’s vision.
Personal Qualities
- Caring, enthusiastic, and approachable. Reliable and professional. Committed to safeguarding and engaging children. Flexible and able to work under pressure. Positive role model with a collaborative approach.
Desirable
- Experience in a committee-run or charity-managed preschool. SENDco experience and training. Knowledge of Tapestry Experience preparing for Ofsted inspections.
Pay: £15.50 per hour
