Overview
We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join some of the schools we work with in the Birmingham area. Vacancies in Small Heath, Alum Rock, Bordesley Green, Stechford, Sparkhill, Sparkbrook, Hodge Hill and more. The successful candidate will support children with special educational needs, including those with autism and disabilities, within a nurturing and inclusive environment. This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young learners, fostering their development and confidence through personalised support and care. The position is paid and suitable for individuals passionate about education and special needs support.
Duties
- Assist teachers in delivering tailored learning activities for children with special educational needs, including autism and disabilities.
- Support children’s social, emotional, and behavioural development through positive interaction and encouragement.
- Provide one-on-one assistance to pupils with specific needs, including toddlers and early learners.
- Help organise classroom activities, resources, and materials to ensure an inclusive learning environment.
- Support children during breaks, mealtimes, and outdoor activities to promote safety and wellbeing.
- Monitor pupils’ progress and behaviour, reporting any concerns to the teaching staff promptly.
- Foster effective communication with children, parents, and colleagues to ensure consistent support strategies are implemented.
Requirements
- Experience working with individuals with autism or disabilities is highly desirable.
- Prior experience working with children in educational or care settings is preferred.
- Knowledge of special education practices and strategies for supporting diverse learning needs.
- Experience caring for toddlers or young children is advantageous.
- Strong communication skills to effectively engage with children, parents, and team members.
- Compassionate attitude with a genuine interest in supporting children's development.
- Ability to work as part of a team in a dynamic educational environment.
- Relevant qualifications or training related to special education or childcare are beneficial but not essential.
