Overview
We are seeking a reliable and physically fit Yard Operative specialising in Coal Bagging to join our team. This role involves working in a busy warehouse environment, handling materials, and ensuring efficient operations within the yard. The ideal candidate will have experience in warehouse activities, mechanical understanding, and the ability to operate relevant equipment such as forklifts. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to a dynamic team and develop skills within the materials handling sector.
Responsibilities
- Load and unload coal bags using appropriate manual handling techniques and machinery such as forklifts
- Assist with the organisation and management of the warehouse yard to ensure smooth workflow
- Operate forklift trucks safely and efficiently, adhering to health and safety regulations
- Handle materials with care, maintaining quality standards during bagging and storage
- Conduct regular inspections of equipment and materials to identify any faults or safety concerns
- Support in construction-related tasks when required, including minor repairs or adjustments to storage areas
Experience
- Previous warehouse experience is highly desirable, particularly in materials handling or construction environments
- Familiarity with forklift operation is preferred but not essential; training can be provided for suitable candidates
- Knowledge of warehouse management systems will be advantageous
- Mechanical knowledge or experience with heavy lifting equipment is beneficial
- Experience in shipping & receiving processes, including load & unload operations, is preferred
- Candidates should be physically capable of heavy lifting and working outdoors in varying weather conditions
