South Tyneside Council is seeking to appoint a highly motivated, compassionate and enthusiastic Alternative Education Tutor to join our Alternative Education Service. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of children and young people who are unable to attend school due to medical needs.
As an Alternative Education Tutor, you will deliver high-quality 1:1 and small group teaching across the borough, supporting pupils in their homes, schools and within community settings. You will work closely with schools, families and professionals to ensure that children and young people continue to access a broad, balanced and personalised curriculum while away from their mainstream educational setting.
The successful candidate will be an effective practitioner with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS), a strong understanding of the Early Years and National Curriculum, and experience of working with vulnerable children and young people, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
You will be able to:
- Deliver engaging and effective teaching tailored to individual needs.
- Use a range of assessment and teaching strategies to maximise pupil progress.
- Adapt learning programmes and resources to meet diverse needs.
- Build positive relationships with pupils, families, schools and partner agencies.
- Monitor, assess and report on pupil progress effectively.
- Contribute positively to multi-agency working to secure the best outcomes for children and young people.
You will need excellent communication and organisational skills, a flexible approach to working, and a commitment to inclusion, safeguarding and raising aspirations for all learners. As the role involves travelling throughout the borough, a full driving licence and access to suitable transport is essential.
