About the Role:
Barry is a growing location for retail, distribution and online businesses serving customers across Wales and the wider United Kingdom, and at Ronsters Exotic Pet Care and Supplies, we provide specialist products for owners of exotic and small companion animals.
We offer carefully selected habitats, feeding supplies, enrichment products and care essentials designed to support responsible pet ownership.
We believe that specialist ecommerce should feel informative, trustworthy and easy to navigate rather than confusing or overly sales focused.
We are looking for an experienced Senior Ecommerce Manager who can take ownership of our online trading strategy and improve the complete customer journey across our digital channels.
You will work closely with marketing, merchandising, product, fulfilment and customer service teams to increase revenue, improve conversion and deliver a consistent customer experience.
You are not simply maintaining an online store. You are identifying growth opportunities, improving product discovery and ensuring that every digital interaction supports customer confidence and responsible purchasing decisions.
You will also support Junior and Mid level ecommerce professionals, coordinate major trading campaigns and help establish reliable ecommerce practices across the business.
Why Work With Us?
The Environment:
Our Barry based team provides a collaborative and commercially focused environment where ecommerce professionals are trusted to make informed decisions and take ownership of performance.
Ecommerce Standards:
You will not need to convince us that customer experience and accurate product information matter.
We value evidence based decisions, clear commercial priorities and measurable improvements over unsupported ideas or unnecessary platform changes.
Specialist Products:
You will work with a focused range of exotic pet habitats, enrichment products, feeding supplies and animal care essentials that offer strong opportunities for educational product content.
Cross Functional Collaboration:
You will work closely with product specialists, digital marketers, buyers, fulfilment teams and customer service professionals throughout the ecommerce process.
Growth:
You will receive support for relevant ecommerce training, professional development and continued learning in digital merchandising, customer acquisition and specialist retail strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
Ecommerce Strategy:
Develop and communicate ecommerce strategies that support revenue growth, customer acquisition, retention and brand development.
End to End Trading Management:
Lead the online trading process from product launch preparation and campaign planning through performance monitoring and continuous optimisation.
Website Ownership:
Manage the commercial performance of the ecommerce platform and ensure that product pages, navigation, search and checkout journeys remain accurate and easy to use.
Digital Merchandising:
Plan product collections, category structures, promotional placements and seasonal campaigns that improve product discovery and increase sales.
Team Coordination:
Coordinate marketing, merchandising, design, technology, fulfilment and customer service teams throughout major trading initiatives.
Set clear priorities and ensure that each team understands the intended commercial outcome.
Customer Experience:
Do not rely on assumptions.
Use customer feedback, behavioural data and usability findings to identify friction and improve the online purchasing journey.
Conversion Optimisation:
Monitor website traffic, product engagement, basket activity and checkout performance to identify opportunities for stronger conversion.
Campaign Management:
Plan and deliver promotional campaigns, product launches and seasonal trading activity across the website, email and digital advertising channels.
Performance Analysis:
Review revenue, conversion, average order value, customer acquisition cost, retention and product performance to guide commercial decisions.
Inventory Coordination:
Work with buying and fulfilment teams to align online promotions with product availability, stock priorities and delivery capacity.
Product Information:
Ensure that online product descriptions, specifications, care guidance and suitability information are accurate, clear and regularly reviewed.
Stakeholder Management:
Present ecommerce plans, trading results and improvement recommendations to commercial and operational stakeholders.
You can explain why an ecommerce decision is necessary, not simply communicate what will be changed.
Platform Development:
Work with developers and external technology partners to prioritise platform improvements, integrations and technical fixes.
Customer Retention:
Develop initiatives that encourage repeat purchases, strengthen customer loyalty and improve long term customer value.
Team Development:
Support Junior and Mid level ecommerce professionals through mentoring, performance reviews and constructive feedback.
What We Are Looking For:
Experience:
At least 6 years of ecommerce or digital trading experience, including responsibility for the commercial performance of an established online retail platform.
Industry Knowledge:
Previous experience in pet care, specialist retail, consumer products, lifestyle products or another regulated retail environment is preferred.
Ecommerce Strategy:
Strong experience developing online trading plans, promotional calendars, customer journeys and digital growth initiatives.
Platform Knowledge:
Practical experience managing ecommerce platforms such as Shopify Plus, Adobe Commerce, WooCommerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud or similar systems.
Digital Merchandising:
Strong understanding of product categorisation, onsite search, promotional placement, pricing and conversion focused content.
Data Analysis:
You can interpret ecommerce analytics, customer behaviour and commercial performance data to identify opportunities and evaluate results.
Marketing Knowledge:
Strong understanding of paid search, social advertising, email marketing, search engine optimisation and customer retention channels.
Commercial Awareness:
You understand how ecommerce decisions affect revenue, margin, inventory, customer acquisition costs and long term profitability.
Leadership Skills:
Previous experience coordinating cross functional teams, managing digital agencies and mentoring less experienced ecommerce professionals is preferred.
Communication Skills:
Strong professional English is required for commercial reporting, campaign planning, supplier coordination and stakeholder presentations.
Technical Skills:
Confident using ecommerce, analytics and marketing tools such as Shopify, Google Analytics, Google Merchant Centre, Klaviyo, Hotjar or similar platforms.
Mindset:
You are commercially aware, analytical and customer focused.
You know when to improve an existing customer journey, when to challenge an unsupported campaign idea and when to launch a focused improvement rather than delay progress in pursuit of unnecessary perfection.
