Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Clinical Coder to join our busy medium-sized GP practice. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurately coding and summarising patient medical records using recognised clinical coding standards. This role plays a vital part in ensuring the quality, accuracy, and completeness of patient data, supporting safe patient care, clinical governance, and practice performance.
The post is office-based and requires close collaboration with GPs, clinicians, and the wider practice team.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately code patient consultations, correspondence, and clinical information using SNOMED CT and other approved coding standards.
- Summarise new patient medical records in accordance with practice policies.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic patient records.
- Review incoming hospital letters and clinical correspondence, ensuring relevant information is coded appropriately.
- Identify and resolve data quality issues within the clinical system.
- Support Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) and enhanced service requirements through accurate coding.
- Liaise with GPs and clinical staff to clarify coding queries where necessary.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with GDPR, NHS information governance, and practice policies.
- Assist with clinical audits and data searches as required.
- Keep knowledge of clinical coding standards up to date through ongoing training.

Preferred Experience
- Previous experience as a Clinical Coder or Medical Summariser within General Practice.
- Knowledge of SNOMED CT clinical coding and medical abberviations.
- Experience using GP clinical systems such as EMIS Web or SystmOne.
- Understanding of NHS primary care, QOF, and enhanced services.
- Experience handling confidential patient information in accordance with GDPR and NHS information governance requirements.
