Set within The Bartlett Faculty, The Bartlett School of Environment, Energy and Resources (BSEER) is comprised of four world-class institutes, providing expert knowledge, collaborative research, and teaching across UCL Energy Institute, UCL Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering, UCL Institute for Sustainable Heritage, and UCL Institute for Sustainable Resources.
The UCL Energy Institute aims to help to build a globally sustainable energy system, by bringing to bear multiple disciplinary perspectives to observe, analyse, model and interpret energy use and energy systems.
We are seeking a Research Fellow who will work in the Building Stock Lab to conduct excellent research in integrated urban energy systems modelling, advancing understanding of the interactions between building stocks, heat and cooling demand, and electricity distribution networks. They will develop new computational approaches, contribute to the expansion of existing modelling tools, and work collaboratively as an active member of the Building Stock Lab.
This post is available immediately and is funded for 18 months in the first instance; further funding to support the post may become available.

The successful candidate will have experience in energy systems modelling and/or optimisation, including mathematical or computational approaches applied to energy planning, scheduling, or operation and detailed knowledge of electricity distribution network planning and operation, including demand response, flexibility services, and the impacts of electrification of heat and/or cooling. They will have experience in modelling multi-carrier or integrated energy systems (e.g. electricity, heat, and/or cooling) and their interactions with energy infrastructure networks.
