Residential AV Engineer – Smart Home / High-End Residential

About the role
AV Lounge Installations is looking for an experienced Residential AV Engineer to join our growing team. We design, install, programme and support integrated technology for high-end homes, including smart-home control, lighting, AV, networking, home cinema, security and motorised window treatments.
This is a hands-on field role working across Essex, Hertfordshire and London. You’ll help deliver projects from first fix and rack build through to testing, client handover and final commissioning.

Key responsibilities
- Install, terminate, label and test structured cabling for AV, data, lighting-control, security and smart-home systems.
- Build and dress equipment racks to a high standard, including power, network, audio and video equipment.
- Install televisions, speakers, projectors, touchscreens, keypads, access points, cameras and associated control equipment.
- Configure and test wired and wireless networks, including IP addressing, VLANs, Wi-Fi setup and connected devices.
- Assist with and increasingly take responsibility for Control4, Lutron and integrated-system commissioning.
- Diagnose faults methodically and resolve issues across new installations and existing systems.
- Work professionally in occupied and newly completed high-end homes, protecting finishes and maintaining excellent installation standards.
- Communicate clearly with clients, project managers, designers, electricians and other trades, while maintaining accurate site notes and snagging information.
Experience and skills
- Relevant experience installing residential AV, smart-home or home-automation systems, ideally within high-end properties.
- Practical experience with Control4 and Lutron. Manufacturer training or certification would be an advantage.
- A sound understanding of TCP/IP networking, wired infrastructure, managed Wi-Fi, VLANs and fault-finding.
- Experience with AV distribution, multi-room audio, displays, home cinema equipment, equipment racks, testing and commissioning.
- Excellent practical skills, attention to detail and pride in delivering neat, reliable work.
- Professional communication and a respectful approach when working in clients’ homes.
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities on site and contribute positively as part of a small team.
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel throughout the project area.

Working pattern and location
This is a full-time, site-based role. The engineer’s expected starting base is Sawbridgeworth, although some working days may begin directly on site depending on the project. Our projects are located across Essex, Hertfordshire, London and surrounding areas, so regular travel is required. Working times will reflect site and client requirements, with a reasonable degree of flexibility available by agreement where project commitments allow.
Career progression
We are not looking for someone to remain purely an installer. For the right engineer, this role offers a genuine route into taking ownership of projects: planning day-to-day site activity, coordinating with other trades, commissioning systems, managing snagging and helping deliver the final client handover. Training and support will be provided as your responsibilities grow.
Pay: £40,000.00-£50,000.00 per year
