Home Tutor – Homeschooling | Oak Meadows Curriculum | London
Location: London – home-based tuition
Start Date: 7 September 2026
Schedule: Monday–Friday, ideally between 9:00am and 1:00pm
Hours: Approximately 4 hours per day, with some flexibility for joint sessions
Duration: Academic year / one-year placement
Potential: Opportunity for this to develop into a part-time salaried position
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced, creative and adaptable home tutor/qualified teacher to support two homeschooled children, aged 10 and 12, throughout the academic year.
The family has recently relocated to London and uses the Oak Meadows homeschool curriculum, an American programme that they would like to continue consistently during their time in the UK.
The ideal tutor will be comfortable delivering a broad range of subjects rather than working as a specialist in one area. The children are accustomed to being taught by a consistent tutor and the family would ideally like one person to develop a strong relationship with both children.
There is also the possibility of two tutors sharing the role, providing continuity and flexibility. In this arrangement, one tutor would act as the lead tutor and be responsible for coordinating and submitting work to the Oak Meadows teacher/exam board.
The Students
Child 1 – Age 10
- Curious, generous and enthusiastic about the world around her
- Particularly interested in fairness, justice and current affairs
- Has a good attention span and responds well to guided suggestions
- Enjoys learning through discussion and exploration
- May initially be shy while building a relationship with a new tutor
Child 2 – Age 12
- Sensitive, considerate and highly active
- Has a strong interest in engineering and STEM
- Enjoys individual activities such as surfing, climbing, skateboarding and gymnastics
- Has a shorter attention span and benefits from regular breaks and changes of pace
- Can become stressed if academic demands feel overwhelming
- Is progressing ahead of his standard level in Maths and is already working at approximately Year 7-equivalent level
- Is moving into a more demanding secondary-equivalent stage of the curriculum
Both children have been homeschooled for several years and are accustomed to working closely with a tutor over an extended period.
The Curriculum & Teaching Approach
The children work primarily from physical Oak Meadows textbooks, completing handwritten work rather than using digital devices.
The curriculum is broad and often integrates different subject areas within the same session. The family therefore values a tutor who can confidently move between subjects and make meaningful connections across the curriculum.
The family is particularly keen for learning to be:
- Curiosity-led
- Creative and engaging
- Hands-on where possible
- Flexible rather than overly rigid
- Focused on genuine understanding rather than excessive testing
- Supportive of the children's wellbeing
- Adapted to each child's individual pace and learning style
The successful tutor should be confident adapting or substituting activities where appropriate, while still ensuring that the required Oak Meadows work is completed.
Responsibilities
The successful tutor will:
- Deliver approximately two hours of one-to-one tuition per child each day
- Occasionally combine the children for joint three-hour sessions
- Teach across a broad range of subjects
- Follow and manage the Oak Meadows curriculum
- Adapt lessons to suit individual interests, attention spans and learning styles
- Encourage curiosity, independence and confidence
- Maintain a positive and nurturing learning environment
- Monitor progress and identify areas requiring additional support
- Help organise and maintain completed work
- Provide regular summaries of progress
- Liaise with the Oak Meadows teacher where required
- Ensure work is submitted appropriately and within the expected timeframe
- Build a strong, consistent relationship with both children
Schedule
Monday–Friday, ideally between 9:00am and 1:00pm
The expected structure is approximately:
- 2 hours with Child 1
- 2 hours with Child 2
- Approximately 4 hours total per day
There may also be some days where the children work together for a shorter combined session.
The first week will have a lighter, relationship-building timetable, with the full timetable commencing from 14 September.
The family is also willing to agree payment for pre-booked tutoring hours where sessions are missed due to planned family travel, provided this is arranged in advance.
What We Are Looking For
We are particularly interested in hearing from:
- Qualified Teachers (QTS) or experienced homeschool tutors
- Teachers with strong Primary or Lower Secondary experience
- Tutors confident teaching across multiple subjects
- Creative and adaptable educators
- Tutors who enjoy child-led and curiosity-based learning
- Individuals who can build excellent relationships with children
- Tutors who are warm, patient and emotionally intelligent
- Teachers who can balance structure with flexibility
- Candidates with experience of homeschooling or alternative curricula
This would suit someone who enjoys teaching the whole child, rather than simply delivering individual subjects.
Why Would You Be a Good Fit?
Please include in your application:
- Why you would be a good fit for this role and these children
- How you would approach supporting both children academically and personally
- Your experience with homeschooling, alternative curricula or cross-curricular teaching
- Your experience teaching children of a similar age
- Your full availability Monday–Friday, specifically cross-referenced against the required 9:00am–1:00pm window
- Whether you would be interested in a longer-term part-time salaried arrangement
Longer-Term Opportunity
There may be an opportunity for this role to develop into a part-time salaried position for the academic year.
We may appoint more than one teacher to create a small teaching team, with one lead teacher taking responsibility for coordinating the Oak Meadows programme and submitting work.
If you are an enthusiastic, creative educator who would love the opportunity to provide a personalised and engaging homeschool education, we would love to hear from you.
