As a Senior Project Engineer at HS2 you will be responsible for the engineering management of the high speed rail scheme part of the Northern Powerhouse Rail core network proposal. To be responsible for providing professional and technical support on engineering issues, leading assurance of route and asset design in accordance with organisational and sponsor requirements, standards and policies. This will be undertaken in accordance with company policies and procedures to achieve the outcomes specified by the Department for Transport (DfT).
About the Role
- To be responsible for fulfilling the duties and obligations of the Senior Project Engineer in accordance with company policies and procedures to achieve the outcomes specified by the DfT.
- To be responsible for maintaining the delivery of safe and affordable design solutions that meet requirements and ensure value for money at each stage of the HS2 development and reporting engineering progress and issues to the Area Manager.
- To assure that the design of assets comply with the technical and sponsor requirements and applicable standards, specifications and procedures by supporting planned Technical Assurance Reviews and “spot-checks” of professional services contract (PSC) deliverables at stage gates and control points.
- To manage and communicate HS2 Engineering requirements to the PSC, provide responses to technical queries, guidance on design solutions and identify opportunities for efficiencies within the PSC.
- To support the Head of Engineering (Phase 2) in discharging their duties of NEC3 Supervisor and Principal Designer Representative as mandated within the Construction Design Management (CDM) Regulations 2015.
- To support the Area Manager with internal and external reporting of engineering matters, including attending stakeholder events.
- To support the Area Manager in developing and delivering the scope, ensuring it is of the required quality and is delivered “on time” and “on budget”, raising issues as appropriate.
- To be responsible for supporting the technical interface management activities with Network Rail across the project.
- To lead and manage a team of Project Engineers ensuring objectives and personnel development targets are set and achieved.
- To be responsible for supporting a collaborative culture which enables high performance by encouraging innovation and knowledge sharing.
- Actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.

- Ability to carry out robust independent checks on a wide variety of designs and produce, interpret and assess specifications, standards and technical reports.

Knowledge

- Degree in civil or mechanical engineering.
- Chartered engineer (or equivalent relevant experience).
Type of Experience
- Experience of managing design and engineering, ranging from feasibility to detail to design, working on a large, complex infrastructure project.
- Experience of professional services contract (PSC) management and compliance.
- Experience of leading inclusively, managing diverse people and working across functions and disciplines to deliver objectives.
- Qualification in project management, engineering or the equivalent experience.
