Job Purpose
The Minibus Driver & General Operative is a dual-role position responsible for safely transporting employees, materials, or equipment using vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes, while also supporting general operational and engineering activities on-site. This role requires flexibility, a strong safety focus, and a practical, hands-on approach in a busy working environment.
Key Responsibilities
Driving & Transport Duties
- Safely operate company minibuses or vans (up to 3.5 tonnes) to transport employees between designated locations, sites, or shifts
- Carry out daily vehicle checks to ensure vehicles are roadworthy, safe, and clean
- Comply with all road traffic regulations, company policies, and health & safety requirements
- Report any vehicle defects, incidents, or near misses promptly
- Maintain accurate driving logs and records where required
- Assist passengers courteously and professionally
General Operative / Engineering Support Duties
- Assist with general engineering and production tasks as required
- Support workshop and site activities, including loading/unloading materials
- Perform basic manual handling and housekeeping duties
- Assist skilled tradespeople with routine tasks where appropriate
- Follow instructions, safe systems of work, and basic technical drawings where required
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment
- Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations on-site
Skills & Experience Required
Essential
- Full UK driving licence (Category B – vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes)
- Safe and responsible driving record
- Good level of physical fitness for manual tasks
- Strong awareness of health & safety practices
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Flexible approach to working hours and duties
Desirable
- Previous experience in an engineering, manufacturing, or industrial environment
- Experience driving minibuses, vans, or transporting staff
- Forklift licence or other plant/machinery certification
- Basic mechanical or engineering knowledge
