360Medicare Personnel is currently recruiting an experienced Assistant Head of Legal Services for an agency assignment with South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SECAmb).
This is a senior and autonomous legal role supporting the Trust’s Legal Services function, with particular responsibility for managing complex Coroners’ Inquests and clinical/non-clinical claims.
The Role
The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of complex Coroners’ Inquests and healthcare claims, providing specialist legal advice and support to senior managers, clinical leads and colleagues across the organisation.
Responsibilities will include preparing for and attending Inquests, advocacy including examining and cross-examining witnesses, managing clinical and non-clinical claims, liaising with NHS Resolution, panel solicitors, Counsel and HM Coroner, reviewing evidence and witness statements, and preparing legal briefings and reports.
Essential Experience
We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:
- A legal qualification/degree and/or substantial relevant claims management or Inquest experience
- Strong knowledge and practical experience of coronial law and Coroners’ Inquests
- Experience managing clinical and/or non-clinical negligence claims within a healthcare environment
- Understanding of NHS Resolution and claims/investigation processes
- Experience independently managing complex legal caseloads
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage sensitive and potentially contentious matters
- Strong stakeholder-management and decision-making skills
Previous NHS or healthcare legal experience, Coroners’ Court advocacy, NHS Resolution experience and line-management experience would be particularly advantageous.
Working Arrangement
The role is based at SECAmb Trust Headquarters in Crawley, with flexibility to work across Trust locations where required. The assignment is initially for 3 months, with potential for extension depending on business requirements.
