Overview
To work as a key person and as part of the pre-school team under the direction of the manager. To provide safe, high quality education and care for young children which meets the individual needs of children attending the setting.
Main Duties
- To assist with the planning of the framework using the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) for guidance.
- To act as a key person to a small group of children, liaising closely and building an effective relationship with parents/carers and ensuring each child's needs are recognised and met.
- To work in partnership with parents/carers and other family members.
- To advise the Pre-school Manager of any concerns over children, parents/carers or the safety of equipment, preserving confidentiality as necessary.
- To teach children, offering an appropriate level of support and stimulating play experiences.
- To ensure that children are kept safe and that you understand when to follow safeguarding and child protection procedures.
- To take action to support the setting to achieve and maintain a minimum good Ofsted rating at the next inspection.
- To oversee snack times within the setting.
- To actively participate at team meetings, supervisor meetings and appraisal meetings.
- To attend training courses as required and to take responsibility for your development.
- To manage and share information appropriately.
- To be aware of and adhere to all the setting’s operational policies and procedures.
- To ensure that adequate records are kept and updated regularly.
- To promote the pre-school.
- To help to set up the setting for the daily programme and to help tidy away at the end of the session.
- To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Pre-school Manager, in accordance with the setting’s business plan/objectives.

Person Specification
Essential criteria
- Level 3 early years education and childcare qualification or equivalent (or a willingness to work towards).
- Previous experience of working with young children.
- Knowledge of child development for children from birth to five years.
- Knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
- Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures and a commitment to continuously promoting a culture of safeguarding.
- Understanding of The Prevent Duty in The Counter-Terrorism and Security Act (2015), as it relates to early years settings.
- Good communication skills.
- An understanding of play-based approaches to children’s learning and development.
- Commitment to equal opportunities and diversity.
- Commitment to working effectively with young children and families.
- Friendly and flexible approach at work which facilitates the development of effective relationships.
- A commitment to personal learning and development.
Desirable criteria
- Willingness to undertake further training.
- Current First Aid at Work qualification.
- Current food safety and hygiene level two.
- Experience of working with children with SEN needs.
Terms and Conditions
Hours: 23 hours weekly, 3 days per week between the hours of 8.00 am to 4.00 pm term time only. Currently Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Working days may be negotiable for the right candidate.
Salary: Salary will be between £12.74 to £13.23 per hour depending on qualification. Salaries are paid on or around the 25th of each month by BACS.
From time to time the post holder may be required to undertake overtime, as agreed in advance with their manager. The post holder will be paid in arrears for this overtime.
28 days annual paid holiday, pro-rata, no holiday is permitted during term time unless the Manager allows this for exceptional circumstances.
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974) and does require a criminal records check. Applicants must be prepared to disclose any convictions they may have and any orders which have been made against them.
Pay: £12.74-£13.23 per hour
