Setting Out Engineer
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Setting Out Engineer to join our growing team. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring construction projects are accurately set out and delivered to the highest standards. This position requires excellent technical knowledge, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with site teams to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within specification.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out accurate setting out for construction works using GPS, total stations, and other surveying equipment.
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and site plans.
- Establish site control points, benchmarks, and reference grids.
- Verify dimensions, levels, and alignments before and during construction.
- Monitor construction progress and ensure work complies with design specifications and tolerances.
- Produce and maintain accurate site records, surveys, and as-built information.
- Liaise with project managers, site managers, subcontractors, and designers to resolve technical issues.
- Conduct quality assurance checks and assist with inspections.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with health and safety regulations.
- Support project planning by identifying potential engineering challenges and proposing practical solutions.
Essential Qualifications
- Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Surveying, or a related discipline.
- Valid CSCS Card.
- SMSTS or SSSTS certification
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- First Aid at Work certificate
Essential Experience
- Proven experience working as a Setting Out Engineer on civil engineering, infrastructure, groundworks, or building projects.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, engineering principles, and site practices.
- Experience using Leica, Trimble, or Topcon surveying equipment.
- Competent in using AutoCAD and interpreting engineering drawings.
- Experience carrying out topographical surveys and producing as-built records.
- Knowledge of quality control procedures and construction tolerances.
