Job Purpose
To manage the day-to-day operation of the petrol forecourt and convenience store, ensuring excellent customer service, maximising sales and profitability, maintaining compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations, and leading a high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Oversee the daily operation of the petrol forecourt, convenience store, and associated services.
- Ensure fuel pumps, payment systems, and store equipment are operational and maintained.
- Monitor forecourt standards, cleanliness, and overall site presentation.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, health & safety policies and operational procedures.
Team Leadership
- Recruit, train, develop, and motivate staff.
- Conduct performance reviews and provide coaching where required.
- Prepare staff rotas to ensure adequate cover and cost-effective labour management.
- Maintain high levels of employee engagement and performance.
- Manage employee attendance, disciplinary matters, and grievances in accordance with company procedures.
Customer Service
- Deliver outstanding customer service and promote a customer-first culture.
- Resolve customer complaints promptly and professionally.
- Monitor customer feedback and implement improvements where necessary.
- Ensure staff consistently meet customer service standards.
Financial Management
- Achieve sales, profit, and performance targets.
- Control expenditure and manage site budgets.
- Conduct cash management procedures, including banking and reconciliation.
- Monitor and investigate variances, stock losses, and fuel shrinkage.
Stock Control
- Manage inventory levels for retail products, and ancillary services.
- Perform regular stock counts and audits.
- Minimise waste, stock loss, and theft.
- Ensure accurate ordering and merchandising of products.
Sales and Business Development
- Drive sales growth through promotions, merchandising, and local marketing initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to increase revenue from retail, food-to-go and other services.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Shop sales and profitability.
- Customer satisfaction scores.
- Stock loss and shrinkage levels.
- Labour cost management.
- Health and safety compliance.
- Staff turnover and engagement.

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Previous experience in retail, convenience, or hospitality management.
- Strong people management and leadership skills.
- Ability to work flexibly, including weekends and public holidays.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Experience in managing or supervising a petrol forecourt or convenience store operation.
- Experience managing budgets, cash handling, and stock control.
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures.
Working Conditions
- Combination of office-based and operational duties.
- Will require early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
- Responsibility for site security and emergency response outside normal trading hours.
Salary
£ 32,000 - £ 33,500 per annum, plus bonus and benefits where applicable.
The Petrol Forecourt Manager is accountable for delivering a safe, compliant, customer-focused, and profitable operation while leading the site team to achieve business objectives and maintain exceptional operational standards.
Pay: £32,000.00-£33,500.00 per year
