✨Are you passionate about helping to make a difference to children and young people? We're looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Youth Worker to join the DASH (Drugs and Alcohol Support Hub) team. ✨
Your role
We are looking for a part time (15 hours) DASH (Drug & Alcohol Support Hub) Groups and Activities Worker who will develop and deliver fun, therapeutic, creative and informative diversionary activities to young people receiving support from the DASH substance use service. The role will work alongside young people, allowing the groups and activities to be shaped by the young people themselves. This role functions as a key element to helping young people build recovery/social capital. Some of these groups will need to be run after school/early evening. The role may also involve taking Young People to other young people’s organisations groups.
As a DASH Groups and Activities Worker, you must be able to engage young people in interventions and activities that will enhance young people’s lives, some groups may be psychoeducational and some are just for fun, unlocking young people’s passions and interests, with the ultimate aim of moving young people on, which may involve going back into school, employment or to a place they are happy in.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Design, develop and deliver groups across Southampton
- Create, identify and facilitate support groups and activities for young people
- Adapt interventions in order to respond to the changing needs of Children and Young People
- Seek regular feedback from Children and Young People
- Work with colleagues from other services to assess Children and Young People’s suitability for groups
- Conduct risk assessments and work with the wider team to produce action plans
- Work as an integral member of the DASH services, responding to service needs
- Ensure quality of service and maintain records to the required project standards, maintaining confidentiality
- To keep up to date with issues affecting young people

You'll have the essentials of:
- Experience in working with children and young people and/or a minimum Level 3 (or equivalent) youth work or relevant qualification
- Knowledge and experience of developing and maintaining contacts / positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Effective communication, organisational and time management skills
- Confident and able to use Microsoft apps, such as Word, Teams and Excel, and databases
- Working proactively and collaboratively with others; reflecting creativity, adaptability and bringing positivity and enthusiasm to your work
- Commitment to personal growth, and ongoing learning and development
You may also have:
- Experience of working with children and young people on issues such as substance use, education and training, family/relationships and (mental) health.
- Experience and a working knowledge of effective interventions with young people experiencing substance misuse issues.
- Knowledge and experience of partnership working with other agencies.
- Experience of multi-agency safeguarding approaches and communicating efficiently with other professionals to support young people.
