Alternative Provision Support Practitioner – In-School 1:1 Support
We are looking for a reliable, resilient and engaging Alternative Provision Support Practitioner to support children and young people within mainstream school.
The role will involve delivering structured 1:1 and small-group support to pupils who may require additional help with behaviour, emotional regulation, confidence, resilience, engagement or accessing education successfully.
You will work closely with individual pupils to build positive, consistent and professional relationships, helping them develop the skills and strategies they need to engage more successfully in school.
Full training, structured session plans and ongoing support will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality 1:1 and small-group intervention sessions within school settings
- Build positive and consistent relationships with children and young people
- Support pupils with confidence, resilience, emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement
- Deliver structured session plans and adapt activities appropriately to meet individual needs
- Introduce practical strategies that pupils can use both during sessions and within the wider school environment
- Encourage positive attitudes towards learning, attendance and education
- Recognise progress and help pupils identify their own strengths and achievements
- Complete clear and accurate weekly reports outlining engagement, progress and outcomes
- Communicate professionally with school staff and the wider support team
- Maintain high standards of safeguarding, confidentiality, professionalism and conduct at all times
- Work independently and reliably across different school environments
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience working with children or young people in education, support, coaching, mentoring, youth work or care
- Confidence engaging with pupils who may present with behavioural, emotional or social needs
- A calm, resilient and consistent approach
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to follow structured programmes while adapting delivery appropriately
- Reliable, organised and professional
- A genuine commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people
Desirable Experience
- Recent experience working within a school or alternative provision setting
- Experience providing 1:1 or small-group support
- Experience supporting pupils with SEMH, SEND, behaviour or engagement needs
- Experience delivering mentoring or intervention programmes
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
