If you have ever wanted to work somewhere that feels genuinely different from your average nursery, this might be exactly what you have been looking for.
Buttercup Barn is a nature-led, eco-friendly nursery nestled in the beautiful countryside of Balcombe, West Sussex. We have a thriving allotment, a wormery, resident chickens, and a deep commitment to outdoor learning. We are looking for a Nursery Practitioner who shares that passion to join our warm, dedicated team.
ABOUT BUTTERCUP BARN
Set in the heart of a close-knit rural community, Buttercup Barn is registered for 56 children and offers four thoughtfully designed, age-specific rooms that inspire curiosity, independence and a genuine love of learning. We go beyond the EYFS framework to create meaningful experiences for every child, from planting in our allotment to nature walks through the village and visits to local landmarks.
Our team is made up of experienced, passionate practitioners, many of whom have been part of Buttercup Barn for years. That consistency and warmth is at the heart of everything we do.
THE ROLE
As a Nursery Practitioner at Buttercup Barn, you will be part of a team that takes outdoor learning and child-led discovery seriously. - Support daily routines, contributing to a structured yet flexible environment where children feel safe and inspired
- Observe and track children's development, keeping accurate and meaningful records
- Build open, trusting relationships with parents and carers
- Support outdoor and nature-based learning as a core part of the curriculum
- Champion positive behaviour and an inclusive, respectful atmosphere
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop curriculum plans that meet EYFS standards
- Contribute to community events, outings and special activities
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Experience working with children in a nursery or early years setting (essential)
- A minimum Level 3 qualification in Childcare or equivalent (preferred)
- A genuine passion for outdoor, nature-led and play-based learning
- Confident knowledge of EYFS and early childhood development
- Warm, patient and creative, with strong communication skills
- A team player who takes pride in what they do
- A valid driving licence is advantageous
