Purpose of the Position:
To help oversee the smooth and efficient running of the Prep Room across all shifts, ensuring all product that leaves the department is to the required standard, correctly labelled and within specification.
To support the Prep Manager in delivering the operation against the agreed budget, implementing initiatives to improve cost effectiveness, efficiency and service, and ensuring all Prep Operatives have the correct equipment, training and PPE to do their job efficiently and safely. This is a hands-on role within the Prep Room.
To ensure the operation performs effectively and efficiently on a daily basis and complies with all BRC, Health & Safety and Hygiene regulations, so that our customers receive food safe, quality produce.
Key Activities & Responsibilities:
- Support the Production Manager to ensure the Prep Room operation runs efficiently across all shift patterns, adjusting accordingly for seasonal variations.
- Support in the training of all employees in all aspects of their role, as well as in food hygiene and health & safety
- Together with the Production Manager through informal and formal meetings, help maintain and improve employee performance, ensuring individual Personal Development Plans are carried out in a timely manner.
- Assist in supporting the welfare of the team, including illness and the rules that govern return to work.
- Support the Production Manager to complete and maintain rotas and approve holiday cover, ensuring the required staffing levels are always maintained.
- Effectively brief the team to ensure daily tasks, quality issues and customer requirements are understood.
- Ensure a clean and tidy Prep Room is continually maintained, working to a “Clean as you Go” environment.
- Support the Production Manager to keep the department in line with the agreed budget, with a focus on driving out unnecessary cost.
- Complete full quality control checks to stock prior to despatch, ensuring anything that is not to spec is re-made and recorded.
- During peak times to be able to use all machinery and assist the team to meet production deadlines.
- Work to daily production sheets, correcting / producing any discrepancies, and monitoring to ensure no over-production.
- Carry out sample checks to ensure correct labelling of produce, including batch numbers, use-by date, weight and product (recorded as part of Q24).
- Complete final checks of produce, including packaging (seals), temperature and weights, and record on the relevant document(s).
- Produce and check day-of-production labels are applied to produce and oversee the ongoing maintenance of product labelling standards.
- Ensure all Stock Rotation in relation to prep produce is completed.
- Ensure all material dispensed into the preparation area is recorded on the Q23 and/or picking notes, including GRN numbers, to ensure full traceability of produce
- Audit Q documents daily to ensure correct and full completion, and ensure daily audits are completed in accordance with our food safety standards
- Assist with minor replacements to prep room equipment (e.g. blades and machines), reporting any major issues to the line manager, and ensure all equipment is maintained and in good working order
- Oversee the ordering of replacement blades, potato preservative, food safe bags and uniforms/PPE from nominated suppliers, and work with outside contractors to keep breakdowns to a minimum
- Complete weekly stock takes of packaging, chemicals, labels, blades and other prep room requirements and hand to the Production Manager.
- Assist with the monthly stocktake of unused stock and prepped product, handing results to the Stock Manager.
- Carry out daily stocktaking at the end of shift and input onto the following day's production sheet to optimise prep room efficiency.
- Request yields and complete relevant paperwork, handing to the Production Manager, and maintain yield information for all finished products to achieve a true product cost (incorporating chemicals, packaging, labels etc.).
- Complete hygiene audits on prep staff, including but not limited to correct PPE being worn (including white coats and wellies in appropriate areas) and no jewellery being worn that could cause cross-contamination — all checks recorded on Q36 weekly.
- Ensure all employees are correctly dressed to satisfy statutory requirements as well as maintaining the company's image.
- Report any near misses that occur whilst on shift and complete the correct near miss reporting form.
- Work to and achieve BRC standard, being audit-ready every day.
- Ensure all prepared items are produced adhering to HACCP.
- Ensure the cool chain is maintained at all times, for both raw materials and finished product.
- Ensure all temperature records are kept up to date and comply with food safety legislation.
- Act in accordance with all company fire, COSHH, health & safety and security regulations, and ensure safe working practices are followed at all times.
- Always follow all company procedures, and maintain and contribute to a working knowledge of Freshview Foods policies and regulations.

Pay: £33,500.00 per year
