Maintenance/Handyman Technician
South Care Homes is a well-established, family run company with 2 nursing homes located in Eastbourne. Our philosophy is to create a secure, relaxed, happy and homely atmosphere for the residents to live in and for the staff to work in. We specialise in providing quality nursing and residential care for the elderly. Both homes have a CQC rating of Good. We provide care for over 18s with varying degrees of residential nursing needs.

We are looking for a Maintenance Person/Handyman to join our team to work across both sites, which are a short distance from each other. You will be based at Manor Hall Nursing Home and report directly to the home manager.
You might be working alongside the rest of the maintenance team or by yourself. In this role, you will be responsible for providing routine maintenance with a sound knowledge of repairs. A good standard of record keeping is essential. Repairs will include basic plumbing and decorating.
You will also be responsible for maintaining security and completing weekly and monthly audits. Out of hours on-call duties, including weekends, are included on a rota with the maintenance team.
The successful candidate will:
- Carry out general maintenance and other relevant tasks as required throughout the homes
- Ideally have experience working in a nursing home or care home.
- Ensure the home is in good decorative order at all times
- Ensure all external areas and grounds are kept tidy and well maintained to ensure the smart appearance of the Home
- Supervise outside contractors
- Test and check all portable electrical appliances that residents bring into the home.
- Test and monitor temperatures on both domestic hot water and heat emitter surfaces. Written records to be kept.
- Understand and ensure the implementation of the Home’s Health and Safety Policy, Emergency and Fire Procedures
- Attend all training sessions as required.
- Undertake driving duties as required.
- Complete all relevant records, reports, documentation as per company policy
- Understand and abide by all company policies
- Have the ability to work as part of a team.
- Friendly, presentable and outgoing.
Successful applicants must have a full clean driving license as you will be required to use the company van.
You will need appropriate checks and clearances, including an enhanced DBS and references.
Full Time: 40 hours per week including out of hours on-call duties, including weekends on a rota with the maintenance team.
